    Favorite Smells in Disneyland

I loved reading about everybodyís favorite sounds in DL, but how about smells? What are your favorite smells in Disneyland? Iím not talking the most pleasant smells- (I know, Iím setting myself up for a ton of body odor jokes) rather the smells that tell you youíve arrived at the happiest place on earth. Here are mine:

--The smell of the water in Splash. Growing up, our family went to DL once every couple years, so it was a big thing when we went. The first ride weíd go on was Splash. Every time I smell that slightly chlorinated water, I remember the excitement and anticipation of my youth.

--The musty smell in the caves area of Pirates.

--The mix of all the food smells on Main Street.

--The stagnant water of Rivers of America. Not a pleasant smell, but if Iím smelling that water, that means Iíve got a decent seat for Fantasmic!

Definently the top ones for me are the chlorinated water on splash and pirates and the the musty smell in the pirate caves as well. Also, the smell of the Indy Queue in the morning (after it's been washed down with what I think is chlorinated water), and the smell of the smoke/fog machines inside the actual ride. I think they must pump chlorine into everything at Disneyland...

i MUST agree with pirates and splash. whenever i step into the building for pirates and smell that water.. i know i'm home again of course whenever i tell my friends (who usually don't go to disneyland) how much i love the smell of the water, they look at me very weirdly.

Ah yes... the distinct smell of Pirate Water. Chanel should bottle and sell it. It could be one of their Eau de Toilette fragrances. Delicious. I'd wear it.

We're going to go through all five senses, are we? Hmmmm...yes chlorinated water is way up there. Although not my favorite, the methane or whatever it is they use for the train certainly says Disneyland.

And this is going to sound really wierd, but here goes:

    Cigarette smoke.

As much as I hate it, there is one brand, maybe Winston, that I remember smelling TONS of at Disneyland in the 60's. To this day, when I smell it anywhere, I think of Disneyland.

And more recently, I take my time walking past the Blue Ribbon Bakery in the morning.

There's nothing like POTC... well, almost nothing. While we were sitting at the UVA bar one evening, a busboy opened their glass-washing machine. Immediately: Pirates! The smell is exactly the same.

POTC water and the smell of all of the accumulated grease, oil and whatever else that builds up on the DLRR tracks.

POTC is without a doubt the best smell.

2nd choice for me is Star Tours queue. Can't really identify the smell, although it seems vaguely alkaline-ish. Maybe it's the Energizer connection?

(Worst smell? Hands down - the coffee stench from DCA entrance. Kill me now.)

I like the smell of Pirates, splash mountain, and the smell of the air around where Fantasmic takes place because of all the fireworks.

Pirate water is my favorite...funny thing is, here in Irvine they use recycled water (or so I'm told) and it is heavily chlorinated. I remember waking up in the dorms in the morning (and sometimes in my apartment), smelling Pirates!

I also love the smell of Churros.
