Well, that's something that would be perfect for a random film ride -- they could keep the old one to represent Episode IV while other locales could be representative of the rest of the films...

Yeah, but who'd want to fly to that lava planet or that ocean planet with all the clones?

The difference being, the whole theme of the ride didn't change when the drop sequences did. You still got essentially the same experience as far as themeing goes. Changing the entire ride theme for a different movie, would be a COMPLETELY new experience for each of the 6 movies, and I really do think that allot of people would not only pick favorites, but become very disappointed when they didn't get to ride their favorite.

I also think they should preserve the current attraction some how. Im all for keeping star tours just like it is and building and entirely new star wars attraction. in fact im all for building an entire star wars theme park (wdw 4th / dlr 3rd gate here we come). the star wars universe has so much to offer and people would come from all over to visit the worlds that g.l. has created.

anything from lucas would be fine as far as im concerned.

Not that REX could get you there anyway.

Poor REX. It's not his fault, really. Someone didn't remove the 'Remove Before Flight' tag on his torso prior to him taking off...

    Hey, don't blame RX-24.

R2-D2 is the navigator. He's the one that overshoots Endor.

If you're familiar with George Lucas' brand of revisionism, and updates for Star Tours do come to light, you won't even know that the ride we have now ever existed. Plus, I'm sure George will have Star Tours updated in all of the parks at once (around 2007 I'm guessing), so no original version of the ride will exist. This is my prediction.

At least we won't have to worry about a Star Tours Holiday Edition based upon the Star Wars Holiday Special...will we?

As long as they give George Lucas total creative control and he has WDI at his disposal, it will be amazing. It will most certainly include all new vehicles and a completely new attraction, not just a new film for the StarSpeeder with Rex. Maybe if it were 10 years ago and Lucas was negotiating with Eisner.

Nope. Because it would be too easy and too cheap (comparatively).

Re: Will Steve Jobs and George Lucas Update StarTours?

The technology of the Star Speeders they use now is too outdated to reprogram a new movie. Lucas is gonna gut that bldg and put in a whole new system/seats and movie... It'll rock, he just needs the will, the budget and the green light and it will be amazing.

Re: Will Steve Jobs and George Lucas Update StarTours?

The technology exists to make this ride incredible once more. I remember how cutting edge it was in 1987, it was just unbelievable! With digital HD video, modern in-cabin effects, digital surround sound, a modern speaker system and advanced hydraulics, this ride could blow the roof off what's possible with a simulator.

However, my faith was lost on Lucas long ago. I even thought that NO ONE, not even Lucas, could screw up a villain like Darth Vader and I found out how wrong I was...I laughed the entire time at how silly Episode III's Vader was. So unless Lucas is kicked out of the project, something that seems infinitely unlikely, I'd like to see something else take this aging attraction's spot.
