I for one will be THRILLED when the 50th is over

I know ALOT of people, myself included, are thrilled that Disneyland is doing well. It's great to finally see the park looking so nice, running nice, offering good shows, etc, etc, etc.

But ... there used to be a time when you could go to the parks on a non-holiday weekend in the off-season and not see lines in excess of 20 - 30 minutes and rather empty walkways.

Say what you will about the Pressler/Harris era but there were non-busy days to enjoy the park.

It seems lately that EVERY DAY is packed. Sure if you get to the park early you can get on some rides early and enjoy some nice empty walkways.

Gone are the days of walking up to Jungle Cruise or Big Thunder or even Pinnochio, the Tea Cups or Small World at noon on a Sunday and walking on. Even the most minor attractions have lines of 30 minutes plus.

My only explanation of all this is the 50th. It has turned in to such a success that people who have not gone to Disneyland in years are now going. Add the fact that the 2-fer (needelessly IMO) started recently and there really is no more off-season.

Am I alone in wishing that just once in awhile the park wouldn't be so busy???

I've been thinking though, what if it doesn't stop with the 50th? What if many people just used it as an excuse to go check itout, but like it so much they decide to make it a yearly thing? What would it be blamed on then?

Don't forget, the 50th concludes just in time for Christmas. We won't be seeing actual off-season crowds again until next January at the very earliest.

Ya, don't expected it to end as there are many changes for people to come check out over the next few years.

Heck Disney is making money....isn't that what we all want? I know I do!

You are not alone. I, too, yearn for the days of an actual off-season!

Yeah, it's a shame when something you enjoy does well heh heh

Seriously though, the crowds are obviously great news for Disney. The bigger attendance is leading to bigger income which will hopefully mean better things for the regulars (which I am certainly not one of) in terms of money invested in rides and attractions. There has already been talk of boosting DCA.

If you are opening an amusement park, crowds are not only an inevitability but a hoped for thing. Sure, it is unfortunate when everybody goes on the same day as you, but there is only so much room to go around on this wacky planet of ours.

Well, Nemo and new Monorails for starters, plus the continuation of DCA placemaking. I think CM Matt already had a few tricks up his sleeve, and Lassiter doubtless has added a few more. It should be an interesting decade...

I miss the old days, too...

I don't think it'll be like that anytime soon, though. I think the 50th has gotten more people to become APs...

It's the reason I bought my first AP! (couple of weeks before the May 5th kickoff)

Don't get me wrong, I love where Disneyland is heading. More people = more money = more attractions = more fun. It's a great equation.

All I'm saying is once in awhile it'd be nice to have a nice quiet day in the park.

My guess is when the fireworks aren't going off every night it will slow down.

Re: I for one will be THRILLED when the 50th is over

I cant wait for the 50th celebration to be over, but not because of the crowds (hey I'm a stockholder and the Resorts are making me money - lol).

I just want the park back to looking normal, you know what I mean? Dont get me wrong I've enjoyed the whole celebration and all, but it'll be nice to have Mickeys head in flowers back at the front entrance. The Mark Twain without the gold garb and obnoxious banner between the 'stacks. The gold lamposts on Main Street returned to normal. The castle de-crowned and de-tapestried (yes I know everyone likes it and that I'm in the minority and it was nice for the 50th, but not all the time). And all those darn 50th logos all over the park eliminated!

Those are my reasons for wanting good ole Disneyland back to normal.

You are not alone!! It seems when I visit the parks now I leave with that exhausted oppressed feeling. Just too many people. If they are making money, fine. Just hope they add mucho attractions soon to thin things out!
