I got the balcony seating for April 2nd.
What is it like?
What kind of desserts are served?
You know, a CM at the Gallery told me last month that you don't really have to book a month in advance. If you have a small party (like under four people) you can check City Hall on the day of your arrival and they may have seats open.
On the Fantasmic! Balcony, they serve:
Black Forest Cake with cherry
Small Pastries (macaroon, strawberry tarts, chocolate eclairs, napoleons, and lemon bars)
Fritters w/ Apple Custard
Cheese (Swiss, Cheddar, Mozzarella)
Carr's Water Crackers
Fruit skewers (Canteloupe, Strawberry, pineapple, honeydew melon)

Is seating on the blacony (ie who gets the front row) based on when you book or when you get there on the day?

If you see a cute yellow lab puppy with a yellow cape, WAVE! It might be us! (Or it may be someone else that lurks here!) Thank you for asking before you pet! Next trip, Dec 22-Jan 3rd.
Seating is based on the time when you made the reservation.
But you are still required to be present at the Disney Gallery 30 minutes before showtime to ensure that you are seated according to the time when you booked.
The information about when you booked is printed on the ticket. Without this information in the hands of the cast members at the Gallery, it is hard to say when you booked.
Have a wonderful time!!!
I've still never done that

Just hope it does not start raining and the show gets cancelled. I know some people who that happened to and they were not the happiest people.
So, what's better? The balcony or the area by the water? I did the balcony around 5-6 years ago, and it was so much fun! I'm coming "home" in late August.
