Ride a Piece of DRR History!

In early May, folks will have a chance to ride in Disneyland's original passenger cars, which now belong to a private collector in Santa Margarita, near San Luis Obispo on California's Central Coast.

These cars, known originally by CMs as "Retlaw 1," were traded away for what would eventully be the engine that became the Ward Kimball.

The last car of the set is the Lilly Belle. So, if you can't get a ride in the plush observation car, get up to Santa Margarita for a ride in the "coach" section!

There are only 2 cars in the poster, Steve... Do you know more about this than what's in the flyer?

This looks like fun! Vic and I might just take Amtrak up and make a train weekend of it!

I'm going to make plans to be there, the Wolfpack loves trains! We also like San Luis Obispo, taking the Amtrak sounds like a great way to get there also....Thanks for the suggestion Tom!

Well, the cars are being restored...so maybe all four that are in SLO won't be running...

However, the reason you see only two here is because there are two steam locomotives! Each one hauls a couple cars.

(Another interesting Disney connection: One of the steam engines that will be in operation is named "Melodia." This engine operated on the Laurel Valley Plantation with an engine named "Maud L." currently at Disneyland wearing the name Ward Kimball!).

Steve, thanks for the info. I have a friend out there we frequently visit. That would be a great event to attend.

Also great to hear you on the Official Disneyland Podcast for the Ward Kimball Dedication.

Thanks, Tictoc! Haven't heard it myself. I'm sorta afraid of my own golden-throated voice.

    Restoring old Disneyland Railroad cars?

I found this on YouTube. It's pretty cool!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFjVV...5%20Disneyland

Does anyone have any more information on this? Those RR cars are pretty sweet. They'd be incredible fully restored. I don't recall those coaches ever in my lifetime, though. When were they retired?

Good find! Hopefully Steve finds this soon. There was an exhibit down by there recently that he had talked about.

Here's the thread with the same link and more info that Steve started.

Since it is the same topic they are merged.
