Harbor Blvd Pedestrian Entrance UPDATE!

I can tell you for certain that Disney is NOT going to remove the Hollywood & Dine building. They would not have built what looks like a medieval battlement in front of it if they planned on not using it for private usage (blood drives, private party headquarters, candy storage, etc.) With DLR's storage capacity at the minimum (Emporium uses its roof for hanger storage), They will not give up such a valuable, multi-use building so easily.

Guests tend to think that buildings not being used by them are not being used at all. Erroneous thinking, this is. Almost all of the "unused" space in the DLR is either:

1) Used by the resort itself (H&D, Bay Area Buildings),
2) Used by 3rd party groups (Millionaire),
3) Or is unable to be used per fire codes (Backstage walk space, clear paths & aisles during Remember and Fantasmic!).

Not that I don't agree that the Busplanade should be cleaned up and/or relocated, and HPB expanded. ^_^ Although it would be nice to see an ORIGINAL E-Ticket in a Disney-operated theme park.

I remember the bad old days, when Harbor Blvd was really sleazey. It's been cleaned up considerably since then.

Anaheim really had a problem with Harbor Blvd. at one time. It was infamous.

What a difference it is today.

Harbor is still pretty bad. It is still frequented heavily by hookers, streetwalkers, etc. (Years of living near that street have given me plenty of opportunities to spy some propositions goin' down).

It is also the home of several adult media locations, including Spanky's (You know, the one with the old school police car out front). o_O

How about having SHAG design a retro DISNEYLAND sign like the old days that goes over head...

the design element would go over a lot of peoples heads.... both figuratively and literally.

i, too, HATE the orange sign dealio. truly ugly. i love the SHAG art & at first, i liked the suggestion of him doing a sign. however, i think that DL needs a classic marquee with staying power. something that's not going to look dated quickly.

i've said this before, but i really think they might as well close the timon lot altogether. it's rarely used & i think should be used for some sort of DCA expansion. now, as to where the busplanade should go instead, i'm not sure...that's why i'm not paid the big bucks to be an imagineer

As much as I think the sign is a cheap excuse for a welcoming marquee liek what Disneyland used to have, its so much better than what the parks at Walt Disney World have... WDW's Magic Kingdom archway reminded me of an oversized plastic accessory to some cheap playset. Ugly ugly ugly!

No, not my fifteen minute parking! Since I don't have a car, most of the time I'll bum a ride and get them to drop me off there, and it's wonderful. It's always pretty heavily used, too, so I doubt they'll get rid of it. (Though I've heard rumors it will become metered in the future.)

Yeah the sign sucks but I think they have more important things to be working on.

But if I had to name one pet peeve I'll say I am mad they didn't go through with the plans to add a side enterance to DCA in the Hyperion so they could use it as a real theater for real shows and concerts like they wanted to (god restrooms and another gate were too expensive for them in 2000 :P ). But I digress, like I said, more important things to work on.

But, you really have to be looking for that type of thing, now.

In the old days it was in-your-face type of thing. Now they've planted trees, the hotels have been renovated. The whole look of Harbor Blvd has been cleaned up.

It used to be the most notorious street in Orange County.........cosmetically, at least, things have been cleaned up.....compared to the mid 1980s.

In the mid 1980s, and some of the 90s, the hotels/motels looked really ramshackle and falling-down, there were no trees etc.

One of the few things that I like about the entrance signage for the resort destination is that the colors preserve the original scheme used in the Outer Lobby's parking areas.
