I was thinking of inviting someone to Disneyland who happens to be a single father with a one-year-old baby, and I was wondering if those papoose things are a good alternative to using a stroller.
He's really strong and athletic, and I would be willing to wear the papoose, too.
Has anyone ever tried those baby carriers?

I vote for stroller. You don't want to have to carry around a sleeping baby- they are dead weight. And a 12 month old seems a little big for that kind of arrangement, especially if they are not already used to it.

Just bring both. You can leave the stroller places is the carrier works and then come back to it. Let me tell you though - it looks a lot easier than it is. Find a backpack, drop 35 pounds in it, and carry that around the block a few times. I guarantee you won't start an anti-stroller thread! ;-)

We've taken both a stroller and a papoose for our nearly 1 year old and I'd vote for the stroller. A 1 year old is pushing the weight limit on those papooses and they're a pain getting on and off the rides with. The CM's make you take the kid out anyways. Plus you can carry jackets or baby food or whatever else you need (plenty of diapers) on the stroller.
Yes, and I would use the stroller with a 1 year old. If you are talking about something like a baby bjorn, they work great, but I would still have the stroller. Remember, not only do you have a baby, you have the baby supplies. Strollers make life so much easier.

I heard somewhere that Walt Disney World requires its guests who have young children to use rental strollers. Is that true?
If I was ever going to take a stroller, I would use the lightweight, umbrella-style kind.
