    Replacing The Castle

Lets say the castle had to be replaced for some reason, would you build it exactly the same or make improvements? Personally, I'd like to see a dragon in the dungeon. It would also be nice if they fixed whatever security concerns there were so that they could put in some type of walkthrough.

    Re: Replacing The Castle

A dragon in the basement would be pretty cool but it would have to be done really well for it to look good and not just something like the Captain Nemo attraction in Paris!!!

They could just update the one that's there now. Maybe a new walk through?

    Cool Re: Replacing The Castle

One word...Asbestos!! (The only logical reason for both redoing it & making it walkthough-friendly!!) If they had to redo it, I'd like to see it a little bit taller. And YES!! definitely a dragon in the dungeon, that would be excellent; as long as they do it right, no cutting corners by having this dungeon & then just having one little lizard doing pushups all the time.

    Okay so techincally I'm going off on a tangent here, but *if* the same scenario came up w/ Big Thunder Mountain...{daydream} replace it with Pride Rock...and then put 2 roller coasters in there...sorta like Dueling Dragons @ Universal Studios Islands of Adventure) winding in & out around Pride Rock. One side be a more sinister/darker ride for "Scar", and perhaps a fun yet slightly tamer version on the other side for that always-do-gooding lion...whatever his name is... heheheh!! {/daydream}

    Re: Replacing The Castle

Yeah...taller would be better because it is kinda small compared to the other castles

uhm.. I'd make it the same, it is the original castle! Also, make it a bit wider, to fit a sleeping beauty dark ride

leave it be it's a landmark. and if you remember the old addage, nothing can be taller than the park landmark. in the case of DL it's NOT the castle... IT's the matterhorn. that's why all the mountains in DL seem so short. well to some of us floridians that is.. they can't be taller than the matterhorn. IN florida the major landmark is the castle and it's nice and tall.

Quit knocking Aurora around! Jeebus. That poor, sweet blonde practically never gets any credit. It's always Cinderella or Snow White. Boo-hoo

I'd like to see a Sleeping Beauty darkride somewhere, but I don't feel it has to be inside the castle (it'd be cool if it did, but I don't see how it could physically fit).

Sadly, the Paris version was very specially built because Eisner demanded an incredible level of authenticity at the time. But now WDI has found that in a rainstorm, the Paris castle leaks in all sorts of different ways that they hadn't expected.

Hence, you'll never see a Paris castle again.

If they do rebuild, they'll use the same thing they did in Hong Kong. A pre-fabricated, "connect the pieces" version of the same castle. They really need something bigger though, although not WDW big because of the mountain.

It's not that something can't be as tall as the Matterhorn, because it was surrounded on both sides by Skyway towers for many years. It's actually the size of the wimpy castle that causes all the problems.

Remember that DL's Space Mountain was built 17 feet into the ground so that it wouldn't eclipse You Know What in it's shadow.

    Re: Replacing The Castle

Hong Kong has a prefab castle because Herb Ryman wasn't around to design a new one. I've heard some mixed feelings from inside the company about building new parks, but if we do get more Magic Kingdoms, I doubt they'll get original castles.

I hope they never mess with the castle again, other than taking off the silly crowns. (They're good for the 50th, but I won't miss them when they're gone.) I remember coming to the park last August the day before I moved into my dorm, my first visit in a year or two. The castle was covered with a big blue tent that looked like a layer cake with cards from Alice in Wonderland all over it. I felt like someone had punched me in the stomach, it was so bizarre walking up Main Street. Leave my castle alone, please!

i would not want to redo the caslte, unless it meant keeping it the same one and redoing the walk thru. i miss going up there and walking in the castle. I kind of like the crowns on the turrets. when i was looking at the new hong kong castle, which is basically ours withouth the 50th decorations i thought it looked so blah! and bland! the crowns make it look more royalish.

    Re: Replacing The Castle

If they made the Castle as is but taller it would ruin the park. The entire park is forced perspective. It wasn't just the castle that caused Space Mountain to be so small. The entire park is built to the same scales.
