My sister and I went. We got there around 1:30am. "Tried" to sleep in the Paradise Pier area. Getting greeted by cast members was lovely way to start the day. It was beautiful seein' all the gold mickey ears down main street. I couldn't stop crying during the ceremony. It was really packed, but surprisingly we got on lots of rides, saw the fireworks (front and center), and saw Fantasmic. If you want to read more, check out my myspace blog.

Re: Who went to disneyland on July 17th 2005?

We were part of the DCA homeless!

Got in line at 1.00am, had a blast standing in line-met some great people and had a fun time cheering the cast members arriving and leaving. Got to read the "new" Harry Potter book in the wee hours of the morning in DCA and even got a few winks on the boardwalk! I loved every moment of it!!! Jaded-old me even got misty on the way up Main Street with every cast member welcoming us home. A moment I will never forget...truly a once-in-a-lifetime event.

Stood in line to get the pin, which was a little frustrating, but that seems par for the course for Disney Special Events. Only got on a few rides. Left around 1pm, took a power nap and we were back in the park went by 7.30 pm and stayed late!

    What a blast!

Re: Who went to disneyland on July 17th 2005?

I was there (hmm, I guess Chernabog's post already made that obvious). Was at the piano at Coke Corner at midnight, where we sang Happy Birthday to Disneyland, then headed out to move my vehicle, and joined Disneyphile and Frodo Potter in line where we were joined by several other micechatters like DisneyDaniel, Soulquarian, and since I'm horrible with names I'm simply not going to attempt to name everyone because I'm bound to leave someone out, but there were quite a few of us. In DCA, we ended up in the hub cap plaza, right below the jumbotron. Pink wristband group.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

I WORKED there that day! I was at the Inn Between when Walt's Dedication speech was playing and I wanted to run out on stage to see it on the jumbo trons.. but I think I just watched it on the TVs inside the Inn Between. It was a fun day to work.

A bit off topic, but if you check my avatar, you'll see Alan Crowder, who's now a sous chef at the Plaza Inn. He and I both worked the day and night of the 25-hour party on July 17, 1980 in the New Orleans Main Kitchen, making the jambalaya and Monte's and stuff others have referred to....and of course he was still around to work July 17 of last year...part of a relative handful of CM's that could make that statement. I'm just sorry that I didn't make it back that day.

BTW...Our FOTA people will be glad to know that Alan is a lifelong USC fanatic...

Re: Who went to disneyland on July 17th 2005?

I was there too. I was already there on the 16th for something else going on and just didn't go home. I parked my car in the Timon lot around 12:00am and headed over to the already many people that were waiting in line to be put in DCA. I was in the group of pink wrist bands. And I was in DCA by the winery. I did try to sleep some, but was too excited and also as the night got later and later and the morning got earlier and earlier, that disney music got louder and louder. Then it was time to go into DL. It was kind of fun going passed everyone by the turn styles waving as we went by. And as the moment came when I got on main street and seeing all the CM's waving and saying welcome home, was a special disney moment I will treasure always and I just started to cry. Then it was off to the line to wait to get the I was there pin. By the time I got in line, I was between the french market and the mansion. And as we moved slowly, I saw a CM counting heads to hand out the vouchers. I started to get nervous, because I thought they would run out before they got to me. I saw some people going to those already in line ahead of me asking them to buy them the pin. To me, I didn't think that was fair. I felt if they wanted the pin, then they should have stayed up all night like the rest of us did. Then the CM said that since we had the voucher we could leave the line and come back later. Well I didn't think that was to wise and I was right. Friend of mine got to the park later in the morning and wanted some of the other things they were selling and they got in that line. When I saw them later on, I found out they ended up waiting in that line 7 1/2 hours. YIKES!! I thought it was kind of dumb having the big screens in the festeval arena, because the ceramony had just started when I had just got done getting my pins. And I was going over to watch the screen when the CM there said I couldn't watch it. I kind of said, what is the point of having the screens up here if you arn't going to let us watch it. So I tried to get over to small world, but they had the gate close going over to there. But at least I got to see a little of it while I was asking the CM why I couldn't watch it there.
I met up with some friends and then I got so tired I actually ended up at the first aid and took a nice hour nap. I then met some other friends after the quicky nap. And then finally I left around 5:00. I was totaly pooped. But I am glad I have this memory to treasure. I wasn't there when DL first opened in 55, and I don't think I will be there for the 75th. But its nice to tell all my friends that I got to be there for this special day.
Did anyone video tape the ceramony? If you did please PM me and maybe I can get a blank tape to you to get a copy of it. Thanks

I was a happy camper for the 17th as well. That was a long weekend, to say the least. I was also lugging around my Harry Potter book that day, which I promptly stowed in a locker. We had lunch at Zocalo with Dusty and Al, and we managed to eat second lunch at Blue Bayou, too! Good times. Met a lot of great people that day.

I was there. I stood in line for DCA with TicToc and his wife Figaro7, Robert951, and Crazylegs. We soon met up with anotherpixie. DLCM was with pixiechick and Where's Barbie? (before she was on MC) and we ended up meeting up with them. I remember running all through DCA in excitement and finding MiceChatters each time we turned around!

I remember you asked me about Bass Shakers and I had no idea who you were. At the noon meet I felt overwhelmed. That's the last time I wear a name tag and others don't. I was so lost and was too shy to ask for names. Hense, why I did't know it was FB in front of me. But I remember Dustysage saying that he was suprised when Club 33 wasn't some 40-year-old! And Super-K with his camera with that flash. And you can't forget Darkbeer and his camera as he protested and met in the hub. So I was bouncing between the two spots. And ah shucks doing a little dance so that we could take a group photo. All in all, TOO MANY PEOPLE - SO LITTLE TIME.

That's another thing. I remember fulfilling Not Afraid's dream in taking over the carousel and starting the MC gang in singing Happy Birthday to Disneyland there.

Then the re-dedication... and the cupcake. And alas, my day was over.

But in the end, very, very magical. Thanks for making it so wonderful MiceChat.

I KNOW! I was sooo nervous meeting people... I barely talked to anyone. I remember you giving me a hug Brianna.. and like... I was so stoked to shake DustySage's hand. Then Not Afraid told me that she wanted to talk to me more about music... it was so cool! haha.
Well, light travels from the sun. Then, bounces off of our planet, and back into our eyes so we can perceive color. My body can intercept that light and dance around on it!

Re: Who went to disneyland on July 17th 2005?

My wife and I had a room at the DL Hotel with a view of the monorail station. She got in line about 4am. We were on the first train into the park. After looking at the pin line we decided to go back to FL where every ride was a walk on for at least an hour. The storybook land guides gave out stickers to the first 50 guests on the ride. We went around on Peter Pan twice and finally got tired of riding it. (When have you ever heard that?) It would have been nice to have a pin but we had a lot more fun in FL than in a line for six hours.
