    Pasadena to DLR-Fastest Route@6pm Tuesday 4/4

I'm going to be in Pasadena on business Monday- Wednesday of this week and would love to know the fastest route to Disneyland at around 6-7pm on Tuesday 4/4. Is the 134 to the 5 route the best? and is traffic beyond crazy?

All my contacts say I am doomed. **Snif** I just CAN'T be in SoCal and NOT go to Disneyland...but...

    Thank you!

Yeah, your kinda doomed because of rush hour traffic.

Let's see, I think you have 3 options:

    1) from 210 east to the (i think) 605 south then 5 south (i think you should avoid the 210)
    2) 10 east to 605 south to 5 south (i think I take this route now...)
    3) 10 west to 710 south to 5 south

Traffic in Los Angeles is a NIGHTMARE!!

I think I drove to Disneyland once around 4pm-ish, it got a bit slow, but I got to the park between an hour to an hour and a half. I think that was a THursday night the first week of December 2005.

    Well, GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!

I would avoid the 5 as much as possible. The 134-210-57 south, off at Ball Rd. then west might be a little quicker...of maybe the 134-5-60-57.

Unfortunately, at that time it's basically "pick your poison"

If you have somebody who is going with you, the 605 has a carpool lane.

The 5 south in notoriously slow and only has three lanes from Downey through Norwalk. That and the fact that Caltrans has never really fixed the drainage problems around that area, and if we really get the three inches of rain that they are promising, parts of the 5 freeway could be under a foot of water. (It usually happens on the 5 north just before the 7.) When it rains heavily, they usually shut the 5 down for a bit to let the water drain off.) 605 south is not such a bad idea as it has a carpool lane, but it's always nasty before you hit the 5. 210 to 57 is not bad, but the 210 E at 6pm will be a parking lot until you get up towards Azusa. So.....yeah.

Bottom line is....if it's raining, you're probably looking at a 2 hour commute (When it rains, we Californians don't know what to do with ourselves, and generally we all drive into each other) If I was taking odds on this, I'd say your best bet at would be 210 E/57S to Ball road...RB's recommendation. If you decide to go 210 E/605 S, you might as well go up to the 91 E in which case you pick up the carpool lane straight to DL (after merging with 5 S). Even without the carpool lane, the 91 E should be far less crowded than the 5 S. If you don't have a carpool person with you, take some of your favorite CD's with you cuz it will be a loooooong drive.

If it's raining, all bets are off. In either case, 5 south will be your long shot. Better odds on either 605 S or 210E/57 S.

Oh....and if it IS raining....your reward should be getting to the DLR and finding very low crowds. At least that's the theory. If you are going for the fireworks, I don't know if it's possible to call ahead and check first to be sure they don't cancel the show due to rain. (The rain might be gone by then.) Have fun, and let us know what happens! If you stay away from the sigalerts, you should have a great night!

Well, after 6 traffic on the 210 does lghten up some, esp. in the carpool lane. When I go, it's the 210-605-5. The 210 will loosen up some closer to the 605, and the 605 should be fine. The 5 is nasty pretty much anytime. It should take about an hour.

but yeah, if it's raining... who knows. Good luck, people around here don't know how to drive in it.

And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

I'm guessing an hour and a half.

Go south through Pas. and South Pas down to The 710. The 710 all the way to The 91, then east to The 5.

I recommend going with someone, in order to use the carpool lanes.

6-7pm is not as bad as 4-6pm but BUT its still pretty bad. The only way I can think of saving anytime on ANY free way is using Carpool lanes. It will save you at least 30-45 mins. Im guessing with not-so-bad traffic 1 1/2 to 2hrs if traffic is bumper to bumper and your mph dont go past 15mph. the 5fwy is horrendous from OC to LA (Hence the Orange crush 405 FWY).. its different going from LA to OC. OC has more lanes on the 5 but when it gets to la is like 3 lanes. Sucks. it causes a bottelneck. Anyways.. if you are a DL freak like all of us Id still go regardless of traffic. DOesnt DL close pretty late this time of year due to spring break. So you still may have time to hit up DL. Good luck and have fun

Oh, and last thing to do before you leave for DL: go online to sigalert.com, and check the traffic.

I forgot to post this site. It's the LA freeways and tells you the speed the cars are going. It even posts where and when accidents occured.
