curious questions

I have been reading several Disneyland discussion boards lately, and have noticed some interesting questions. Maybe I'm just a little paranoid, but questions about maps of rides (ride layouts), opening and closing procedures in the parks, security detail questions, etc, seem a bit odd. Hopefully someone is not trying to get inside info for terrorist reasons. Maybe we should consider this. Sorry, not trying to be a downer, but thought we should think before giving such detailed info.

No one is trying to get information for subversive reasons, we're all just inordinately obsessed with Disneyland and want to know everything we can about our favorite place!

If someone wanted to find this stuff out for questionable reasons, don't you think they'd be a little more slick than to post it openly on the internet? Terrorists are much smarter than that!

A good chunk of any of this information is on the public record. All it would require is a trip to the county seat and to just look it up. It's a bit labor intensive, but the details are spot on acurate. What we do here is amatuer speculation. So which would you rather use? Amatuer speculation or the county records?

Also, if a terrorist wanted to infiltrate Disneyland, it would absolutely be worth the effort to get Cast Member nametags from eBay!

disney has always been concerned about terrorists, it just impacts us more right now. I am sure that if a terrorist wanted some real information, they would know just how to get it under the freedom of information act.

Mykidsmom: I think you post a very legimate question. The idea has crossed my mind a few times, too. That said, a lot of the information sought is so benign, I would be absolutely mortified if a terrorst were to use it for his/her own plot. For example:

-How much does a churro weigh?
-How long does PotC last?
-Why is {insert building here} painted one way over another?
-What kind of paper stock is the map printed on?

Geeks from around the world congregate and fan boards and ask questions even more esoteric than this. It's fun, but also a little bit odd from an outsider's perspective.

Yup, it can be a little alarming when we get into the really obsessive questions...but as others have said, a real terrorist would probably obtain information in ways that are more reliable and more secretive.

I guess a good analogy would be music theory. A lot of people--musicians and non-musicians--can't stand the idea of it. But people who are really into music will want to know what makes it tick...what makes it so effective. I guess that's the same thing we do as obsessive Disneyland fans. (I know, because I'm one of those rare people who actually enjoys music theory--at least, the more exciting parts of it.)
