Thumbs down RockIt Mountain:What were they thinking!!!

So with RockIt mountain not set to open this summer (or even never opening at all) What are your thoughts about the whole situation.Disney really did not handle this well at all. They obviously did not think about how they would distribute Fastpasses and how they would deal with people waiting in stand by lines for space but end up going on Rockit Mountain. I was actually disappointed about hearing this news but I had a feeling that it was going to turnout a disaster. How do you feel?

Experience tells us that it's better not to have it, than to hype it up, spend millions of dollars on it, then have it turn out to be really cheesy and disliked by the majority of those who use it. It would have just been another Rocket Rods or Superstar Limo. The new management has learned from the failures of those who came before them. I applaud them, this time.

Rock It Mountain is a concept that the general puclic is mostly oblivious to. Space Mountain is well known. By cutting back on the unknow Disney had Space Mountain open for the hugely successful 50th Anniversary. Good decision on Disney's part if you ask me.

I wasn't particularly happy about the whole concept anyway. I'm actually rather glad it was scrapped (or at least postponed), and I hope they pour the money into some sizeable, NEW E-ticket projects instead.

the FP solution is easy.... they only give them out untill this time.. then an hour before they open rock, they switch the signs.. and show your can get a FP for rock... it doesn't seem that bad..

Re: RockIt Mountain:What were they thinking!!!

I've been pondering this for a fair portion of the day today and have come to a tenative conclusion: Rock-it Mountain appealed to me because it represented all of the shortcomings of the Space refurb. While I still love Space (in my top five favorites), I realize that we all had two plus years to conjure up how amazing the new attraction could have been. Space Mt. is such a great concept, and there's such a large canon of Sci-Fi lore out there, the possibilities are endless. Instead, we were given something that was essentially a spiffed up version of the old thing. It's like when they reverted from the new Coke to Coca-Cola Classic again in the 80s.

Rock-it Mt. could have been great if it were executed well, but instead it sounds like it will never be the replacement reality for our wildest Space refurb fantasies. Is this a common belief?

that is kind of how i feel... don't get me wrong, i love the current space mtn... i just was looking forward to even more excitement on top of an already great ride! i like things like the holiday makeovers and such which breathe new life into the classic attractions... i figured this would be a fun twist as well...

I would have liked to see them pull this off, I really liked the concept of two different ride experiences depending on what time of day you go on... I'm hoping that they can just keep all the unused effects there and dark, even if it's for a year or two, and then when it's refurb time again maybe they can reattempt something more ambitious than what they would be capable of scraping together now. I can wait... and maybe another year or two would give the suits enough time to finally come to grips with the fact that Van Halen isn't exactly the most relevant rock act to feature on the ride in the first place. Because screw "what's so tomorrowland about Finding Nemo or submarines?"... what's so tomorrowland about Van Halen?!? TIGHT LYCRA! FEATHERED HAIR! SCREAMING V-NECK GUITAR! WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF TOMORROW, MOTHA!!! THE FUTURE IS NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW!!! PAAAAAAAAANAMA-AH-AH-AH-AH-AH!!!

I think it'll be better to debut it in a few years when the newness of SM wears off, kinda like the multiple ToT drop sequences.

Wouldn't they have to reset the whole system in order to do that??
I can see what you are saying... but maybe a sign on the FP machiene would be better saying Rock IT MT. after .... 5pm... or something... I just know this wouldn't go off smoothly.

The "hour before they open Rock It"... the SM FP's may be gone for the afternoon by 11 or 12pm... so then what? they just start giving out Rock IT Mt. FP's??

I'd still love to see them use Rockit Mt. But I don't think it makes sense to launch it until the lines start to dwindle at Space (not that they will any time soon). Perhaps use it as a promotion at certain times of the year when attendance isn't very high to stimulate interest. "Rockit Nights". They could have concerts, the spiced up version of Space, perhaps put Captin EO back for those days. Like a special event.

i hope they scrap the idea alltogether. i mean, what kind of rock would they use? i'm thinking "family rock", van halen or some other cheesy hair-rock bs. it would probably just demystify the whole ominous-space feel and i don't really see the point of that. why not build rocknrollercoaster in DCA instead? there was talk about it a few years ago and it was suggested that the west coast version might feature the beach boys instead of aerosmith. now that sounds cool to me!

I mean.. they would have the FP computer reset an hour before they change over... or something like that... they would still close the line, then run it through, then reset the computer for nighttime.. (you would think they would have something to make it easier to change from profile day to profile night... since nothing else changes but sound and effects..) then open Rockit...
