Are they ever going to flood Small World?

as all the other attractions in DLR are recieving upgrades I started thinking a bit about what else might be left for them to modernize a bit

and it strikes me that come next year Small World is going to be looking pretty obsolete

I mean the HM will be upgraded quite a bit along with Pirates and the new Nemo ride will be opening up not far away

and Small World will be left looking alot like it did back when it started at the Worlds Fair

it'd seem to me that they should consider upgrading the ride a bit with alot of what they've done with the newer Small Worlds around the world

and of course the biggest thing they could do is flood the showbuilding

by rebuilding the sets around the flume and flooding the building a bit they'd be getting rid of alot of bad show

i mean as it is you can see off of the flume way to easily to the floor below and it really lets you see to much with the ocasional wires or mechanics I mean the ride could be much more encompassing by building the sets up around the flume

they should also look at doing something about the walls and making them less apparent

or perhaps they could do something similar to how they painted the walls for Sinbad at TDS and go for a storybook look

I mean as it stands DLR's Small World is the longest if i'm not mistaken so it has alot more potential then any of the others (though the last refurb to WDW's was pretty great with the installation of the miniature version of DLR's clock) why not capitalize on it

with an upgraded Small World that entire side of the resort would do a great job counterbalancing the RoA side

Already ahead of you... some mysterious guy named T-Jell-O (or something like that) has the details over at The Disney Dealer.

Hmmm - I'm not so sure my 3 year old would agree. He still seems to ask for "Smaaall Woold" everytime we get close to DL. Doubt most of the target audience would agree either. I'll go ask him though... ;-)

Money could be better spent a hundred other places.

I think the beauty of IASW is its simplicity. The only thing that would need upgrading IMO, would be the mechanics, which I am sure does keep up with the times.

IASW is not a fave rave of mine, but I can appreciate it as-is.

    Just my opinion...

i think it would be cool if they flooded to show building... i heard that part of the original 50th plans included doing just that... the only problems i could see was setting up the electrical stuff so that the switchover to holiday would still be possible...

Why not return it to the Worlds fair build and have GM cars as ride vehicles.

While it might be cool to do the flood, I can't imagine that they could accomplish it without basically gutting the building, rebuilding the lower parts of the sets to be waterproof, securing all of the wiring in conduits (and there's a LOT of wiring!). Behind every thing that's visible in this ride is a mess of wires for sound, wires for control, wires for lighting. It'd be a HUGE undertaking to make it all waterproof. Sorry, I just don't see it happening.

That was the PeopleMover (Magic Skyway as it was during the Fair) and it was Ford cars. "it's a small world" was sponsored by UNICEF, Lincoln by Illinois, and Carousel of Progress by GE.

I don't see how it would be possible to flood the showbuilding without redoing everything. POTC and HM are not being rebuilt from the ground up.

Something does need to be done though from the office building drop down celings, to the latters, wires and old carped right outside of the water ways. IASW looks bad

Thats A Very Good Point The Ride Needs A Upgrade And Should Have The Water Go Up To The Sets Instead Of Seeing Electrical Cords And The Bulky Speakers All Over The Place It Would Make The Ride Alot Better.

Sorry But Please Don't Capitalize Every Word It's Not Neccessary To Do That Thank You.

I read in an E-Ticket magazine that it was originally proposed that IASW would be flooded with water all the way up to the sets, but Walt turned down that idea. Quote: "We already own the trough... we're not going to put water to the sets."

Let's be true to Walt's vision. Don't flood the sets.

Well that changed later as Walt finally let them flood pirates. So by the end I think he liked the idea of flooding sets.

Flooding the sets would be a great idea. Maybe during a refurbishment down the road they should take the opportunity to do something like that. It would make it more realistic.

what do you mean flooding sets.. wouldn't flooding it ruin the mechanics?

^ In IASW's current state, yes. But flooding the set would mean water coming all the way up to the show scenes, not just in the 'trough.' WDW's version of the attraction utilizes this.
