Alan Menken and the Future of Disneyland?

While at the park on Saturday coming out of Splash Mountain, I saw right before me none other than Alan Menken (To my dismay, my digital camera battery just died, so I couldn't get a photo).

He walked right by me and up the exit to Splash Mountain. What was interesting is that he was by himself, accompanied only by a Disneyland Ambassador.

Forgive me if I take this shameful opportunity to read WAY TOO MUCH into this sighting and suggest that perhaps Mr. Menken's visit to the Magic Kingdom could perhaps involve more than just the sudden urge to ride Splash Mountain on one of the busier days of year at Disneyland.

What could this mean (other than nothing, obviously)? The theories could be endless.

Here's mine (Disclaimer: It's not a very good one): He was looking for inspiration for a top secret Disney film that continues the tradition of films based on attractions. "Coming next summer: Splash Mountain - The Movie".

    What's your theory?

    Interesting.

He is likely there for a reason.

I doubt it is for a movie based on the ride.

Splash Mountain is already based on a movie (albeit a very controversial one).

I just can't see Song of the South part 2 coming anytime soon - enough with the sequels already....

Maybe we are just reading into this too much. Maybe Mr Menken is just having a day out, courtesy of his employers.

Exactly. Cant he just enjoy the park without speculation?

Yeah, he can... But still it is interesting he was a single rider...

He is writing a new score for the ride at TDR. The Sinbad and his Seven Voyages ride.

You mean Song of the South?

My theory is that Alan Menken likes Splash just as much as anyone else.

Where is the fun in that?

I vote for Alan working on the ride version of the Little Mermaid for either Disneyland or DCA. He was probably just enjoying a little ride time at Splash or checking out the ride system or effects.

    Yes, much more fun.

Re: Alan Menken and the Future of Disneyland?

he could alway be looking for inspiration...maybe it's just me but I love a lot of the ride music and it might be a decent place to go to get inspiration and tones and such for certain genres of music...

then again Splash Mountain is my all time favorite, so if it were me I'd take advantage of riding it whenever I could for no reason!

Better yet, he was just trying to mess with the minds of people like us...aaah, Menken...such a tease

Re: Alan Menken and the Future of Disneyland?

    A few possiblities:
    - Disney is secretly working on a major refurb of the attraction and Mr. Menken is working on a new soundtrack for it
    - Maybe they're finally moving the country bears into the grizzly mountain at dca, and Mr. Menken is working on some new songs for it, like they already have with the critters in Splash Mtn and he wanted to ride the original Splash Mtn. for research
    - They're adding Splash Mtn. to Disneyland Hong Kong, and Mr. Menken is working on that and wanted to go on the Splash Mtn that's closest to him for research.
    - Menken is working on a Splash Mtn. movie and wanted to ride it for research
    - Maybe Mr. Menken was visiting the park just for fun and since he's done so much great work at Disney, he gets the VIP treatment.

Most likely, it's the last theory, but all of these that I've posted are possibilities, although some with small chances of actually being true.

Re: Alan Menken and the Future of Disneyland?

If I was Alan Menken, I'd want to be at Disneyland all the time. Mainly to enjoy the wonderful music. I do that anyway, but being Alan Menken would make it 100 times better.
I find signatures are overrated. Except for this one.

Just because we have Song of the South doesn't mean we can't have Splash Mountain - The Movie. Followed closely behind by PeopleMover - The Move.

How the heck did you recognize Alan Menken? I don't think I could pick him out of a line-up!
    A signature should go here.
