You know, looking at that old sign... as much as I love the design, those flags on top will forever remind me of Six Flags.

    ..except there are seven...

I was - and I almost cried when they took it down!

The above post reminds me of a younger friend who insisted "pop culture" didn't exist before 1980 and cable (!!!).

I thank you guys for understanding that the sign was a very valuable piece of history for the park. They should make a new sign in the spirt of the old one. I just don't see why some people are so against that.

You can't fit a big huge fountain in there, nor should you be putting a 50's sign there either. It needs to refect the styling of the esplanade and it needs to be an archway - there is no point in a huge sign because most don't drive up Harbour to get to parking anymore - they get funneled straight into Mickey And Friends.

Nostalgia isn't always the best way to go.
Exactly. I think a new sign that both has a modern and historic twist to it with a bit of water added to it would be great- get rid of that ugly orange forever!

You both have it correct. The sign needs some nastalgic value to it but needs to be new at the same time. Water would also be a great idea to add.

I agree. Such a fantastic resort should have an amazing sign to welcome guests. But how would they add water to the sign?

Like have a waterfall underneath- such as the Tokyo one (pic earlier in thise post). Water can be such a beauty when used properly.

I heard that they will have a special effect that changes as you drive by... Johnny Depp's head welcoming you will suddenly disappear, replaced by a bride with an AXE!!!

I think water is a really great thing to use, and if new signage was to be made I'd like to see if Disney could come up with a creative use of water in a sign thats located alongside a busy road.
The Tokyo Disney sign looks great, but that picture does not clearly show the context in which it is used... meaning.. I'm sure the Tokyo Disney Resort sign fits the theme/look/atmosphere of the surrounding area. A nice waterfall with the forest-like theme would be miserably out of place in the hotel-lined sky and modern cityscape that is Harbor Blvd.

With that said, I don't particularly like the current sign, but it fits well enough. It matches the design style of the park signs that you find at the tram area and the Downtown Disney marquees. The only think that needs to be fixed is the logo. They need to ditch the 2001 logo and use the current "original" logo.
