3rd Gate = Long Beach?

I've been hearing a lot of rumors lately that if Disney does build their much hinted at (well used to be) 3rd Gate it would most likely be in Long Beach and not the so called Strawberry fields. One of my (well not directly but whatever) 'sources' is an Urban Planer for Los Angeles County and has mentioned some talk between the two.

My question is, how would this work? Disney made Disneyland a resort when it added CA and Downtown Disney, but this Long Beach park seems separated and alone. The only way I can see it working is if they clone Sea Disney.

Re: 3rd Gate = Long Beach?

Well, Disney did consider a Disney park in Long Beach or Knott's Berry Farm before deciding to build on top of the parking lot for WESTcot. Then WESTcot to Discoveryland to DCA...

Lets have a monorail that goes all the way to Long Beach!

The original DisneySea plans had the park located in Long Beach. The RMS Queen Mary would serve as the park's SS Columbia.

Re: 3rd Gate = Long Beach?

Disney did invest in a lot of property when the Long Beach project was planned, which included buying the Queen Mary and the Spruce Goose, if I remember correctly. Noth have been sold since the project went under.

I think all plans for Long Beach have long been dead. The people living in the city voted to reject Disney building there, so there is really nothing they can do.

Re: 3rd Gate = Long Beach?

I think that the city voted against it plus the enviromentalists had a field day with protesting it as well.

I just can NOT seeing this happening. Long Beach balked at the price tag years ago when this was brought up. The price can only be higher at this time. I would have to place this under long shot rumor

Re: 3rd Gate = Long Beach?

yeah, LB has since really built up the area around the aquarium. i think the 3rd gate idea for LB died. it seems too far away from the DLR anyway.

Re: 3rd Gate = Long Beach?

How OLD is this rumor? This project has been dead for over 10 years. Long Beach has NOT been talking with Disney and, in fact, rejected Disney years ago (as has already been mentioned). They don't own the land any longer and the City has already developed the area in question. I doubt that they would be looking at any other areas of LB. The Ports are is only growing as the busiest port on the West Coast gets even busier.

I hardly think Disney would let it be public.

Disney never owned the Queen Mary or the Spruce Goose. The city of long beach has always owned the ship. Disney did operate it for a while and did a very poor job at that. Thankfully, Disney pulled out. Disney may be good at theme parks and fantasy, btu they suck at running somethign real anf tangible with tons of history.

Re: 3rd Gate = Long Beach?

I love this idea of a DisneySea-type theme park in California. Not LB though, but somewhere definately near the coast- plus Disney could connect the park via monorail to the DLR.
