Song of the South/Splash Mountain Music

Finally got a chance to see "Song of the South" on DVD (great movie!). Well, naturally I had a few questions about it and its connection to Splash Mountain. So here goes...

    1) On the "Musical History of Disneyland" CD during the Splash Mountain track, they play all the songs from the attraction including the "Sooner or Later" song. Now if I remember correctly, this was originally in the ride at the start of the final lift before the plunge, correct? Now where exactly did this song start at and where did it end?

    2) Currently at the end of the ride, during the final lift, there is the scene with the vultures, with Br'er Rabbit and Br'er Fox on the left side. Now this scary music plays during this segment, but I was wondering what the origin of it is. My initial thought was that it was a variation of the "Laughing Place" song, but I may just be grasping at straws. Anyone know if this scary piece is a variation of another song, or if it's 100% original?

Sorry to get off topic, but wow! How did you see this movie on DVD? I've been waiting forever and it hasn't come out!

I can offer my personal opinion in answer to number 2 -- it does sound to me like a slowed down and "minor keyed" version of Laughing Place. I'm pretty sure it is. Someone with more musical acumen should provide a better technical answer, though.

My guess is that a Song of the South DVD will be out within the next year. There's a whole lot of people that want to get their hands on it. It would be a strong seller. If it happens, it will be a Platinum release loaded with great special features.

Yeah I don't believe Iger. He probably said that so the movie would be a shock to us when it does get released. Plus he does not want to endanger the project with people protesting against the movie. When it is released it will be too late to protest.

I've HEARD you can find it on P2P... not great resolution (I'll bet).

But at least kids like mine will 1) know what the ride is about. 2) Have an appreciation for the old Remus stories, which I'm reading to them know, very lightly edited to remove the N-word. 3) Appreciate that there was a time when slavery existed, and to discuss the good and bad of that time.

I agree I could see a DVD coming especially because a version of Brer Rabbit tales was recently released on DVD using well know black actors in the voice roles here's a link:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...v=glance&n=130I
Nothing like a little competition to get Disney to release the original

Two negatives make a positive (at least it does in the algebra world).

Only if they are multiplied or divided by each other. Or depending on how big one of the negatives are, then if the smaller one has the larger negative subtracted from it, then it will be a positive. But two negatives added together will NEVER be a positive, no way no how....=P.

In all seriousness, I'd love to see Song of the South, though.

I got the bootleg myself. It still has the tarbaby scene in it.plus trailers from 72' and 86'.they have an easter egg,Coal Black and the Seben dwarfs. It's amazing what bigotry was gotten away with back then.Of course blacks couldn't vote so no one feared offending them.I haven't seen the new DVD but I'm betting they removed all slavery references from the stories.
