Yeah, it does seem weird that they can't sync the photo up with the log, but it's even weirder that they don't just turn Barnaby off. I remember a period of time about a year ago when Barnaby was just completely gone. If they had to take him out of the ride for refurb, why didn't they change what he does so that he just doesn't sit there and talk without a voice?
    Woof!

Did the owl ever work properly? I remember when it was first installed. Whenever my log got to that area, there was either a blank screen or the wrong log posted.

I think the ride gets pretty hammered because its an indoor/outdoor water ride and the water is super chlorinated. The fur and the walls and the paint all age really really quickly.

Yeah, I remember seeing it work as a kid whenever I went...I usually took my trips to DL at the end of the summer.

I think that this is very true... the humid environment has to be very hard on animatronics. The alligators are submersed, which means that they probably use the water hydraulics that the jungle cruise animals use (not truly an animatronic figure).

In some areas of the ride the lighting has vastly improved. There were times when areas like the Brer Bear being held over the water by Brer Fox wasn't well lit at all, just for example.

It will be nice when they do have another refurb.

I hate that part, the slack on Brer Fox's rope is huge.. It just doesn't physically make sense that he is pulling him up and down. There would be no slack at all. Is that to much to ask for? A tighter rope? It's so annoying to watch...

I was on it yesterday, 17 consecutive weeks, and I thought some areas needed major work, like the showboat, but others areas seemed like they had a refurb, the lighting seemed better in certain areas.

i agreee. splash needs a BIG refurb. the animotronics (sp?) are all getting pretty bad. after the drop that leads u to the bee-hives and everyone playing in the water. the bird or whatever that is supposed to be floating on a high pressure little water fountain when really u can see the black pole and wires holding the bird up and sometimes the water doesnt even make it high enough to make it look real. ALSO. think of the climax lift hill with the vultures and the strobe lights... why cant they hide them better? its sucha show-killer seeing a tacky little strobe light. and the strobe lights never stay the same. everytime i go the strobes are different speeds and the whole ride is just getting no TLC and its like no one working there cares.....

The pillows near the end sometimes get changed because guests splash Brer Rabbit at the end, by the Owl.

One other thing that I noticed, but it was taken care of was one of the pigs on the Steamboat looked like her neck was going to peel off. But it was fixed a couple of weeks later.

It will be nice when all the rides will be taken care of. This is one when I returned in 2002 that was in badly need of lighting and also paint. I agree DisneylandRocks, that rope is kind of long, taking up the slack on that is one of many changes.

Odd that they can build a whole mountain for the ride...but can't synch a photo to a log.
Theme Park Operations added all that stuff several years after Splash Mountain originally opened just so that Pressler could overcharge people for digital photos. It's the only attraction that actually tries to advertise merchandise while guests are still trapped in the vehicles!

I'm so glad that the screen is gone, but the owl needs to be removed, too. And, I would also like to see the flash at the climactic drop either removed or made part of a lightning effect.

Also, does anyone know the reason that the alien pictures at the exit of Space Mountain were removed? When Space Mountain received its photo service, the addition was handled in a very careful way.

workin at Owl Photo the other day, one of the managers told me they're gonna get Barnaby goin again after some kind of sensor thingys are put in the logs so that the timing will be right and people will see their photo at the right time ((i guess they were off?))

    Re: Splash Mountain Refurb?

Most items that everyone is bringing up are/can be done as apart of on going refurbishments during 3rd shift. In general refurbishments focus on much more boring aspects of the attraction, with some Show elements getting TLC as a default since they have time to catch up from all the downtime.

Splash is going down at the start of the 2007 for a refurbishment but I believe the focus is on lift belt replacement and control system updates/upgrades. It's rare that a downtime refurbishment occurs anymore for Show Maintenance reasons (again, that's not to say those crews don't get a lot of work done and play catch up during those times but in reality this sort of work should be getting done during 3rd shift). In general, if you notice an AA missing, it's probably getting it's annual refurbishment already.

Agreed a refurb is what it will need.
