Didn't DL used to stay open later?

I was thinking about it the other day and I remembered being at the park till around 2 am. I thought maybe I was wrong, so I asked my mom as this was when I was a kid and she would have been there. She said we did saty that late back when Splash Mt. opened up. We were in line for SM, so that might have had something to do with it.

But did the park used to stay open that late, or was it just because of a new ride and I happened to be in line? I would have sworn that the park used to stay open later then midnight back in the 80s and early 90s.

According to Let's Dance at Disneyland:
"we're open 'till the clock rocks one AM
    Friday and Saturday nights"

Back in the 80's when I lived near by, I would go Sunday nights, see someone famous at Videopolis (like Buster Poindexter or Johnny Cash), and ride the rides till it closed at 2am. I think it was open till 3am on Saturdays.

They used to close the park Mondays and Tuesdays, in the off-season...open seven days a week during summer, the holidas usually starting around December 20th and especially the week between Christmas and New Year's Day...and what they used to call...Easter vacation...only one week, though, not the extra-long "spring break" of today.

There would normally be "private parties" where large groups rented the park out...US Navy night, Bank Of America Night, et al...where Disneyland would open from 8pm-1am, on Fridays and Saturdays (normal offseason Park hours were 10AM-6PM)...

(That meant if you were a full time CM back then in most cases you HAD to work Wed-Sun in the off-season)...

Summer hours in my time there were 8AM-1AM...holiday periods normally 8AM-12 Midnight.

They started staying open later in the mid-80's, and I'm not sure exactly when they started staying open seven days per week year-round. Might have been in the 90's.

Yeah, I used to go during the summertime, too, in order to see the extra entertainment, and you're right. Extended hours had Disneyland closing at 1 or 2 a.m.

Now that I think about it I do remember one evening when they actualy made an annoucement over the PA stating something slong the lines of "Due to higher than normal attendance Disneyland will remain open untill 1 am."......but that hasn't happened in a long time. Now I wouldn't be suprised if they closed early due to light attendance.

The voices tell me that you don't know what you are talking about...

I really just wanted to try and be nice and see if it will catch on in micechat....

But this thread helped me reconcile some of my childhood memeories of being at DL until 1 or 2am. I couldn't figure out how I would have been there that late if they never stayed open that late. Now, I know. Long Live the 80s!!!

Long Live the 80s indeed! I do have memories of visiting Videopolis until late evening/early morning, and of course, I have been to many New Years Eve parties at Disneyland. Saw Richard Marx, Expose, the Commodores there - can't get more 80s than that!
