    Pressed Coins at the Park

Does anyone know/tried to use non-American coins in the penny press machines?

I ask because Canadian coins are almost identical in size, and come at a 10% discount (although it was 40% a couple of years ago)

    Any luck?

do you mean as the 1 cent or the 25 cent?
"Peter," she asked, trying to speak firmly, "what are your exact feelings to me?"
"Those of a devoted son, Wendy."
"I thought so," she said, and went and sat by herself at the extreme end of the room.

Re: Pressed Coins at the Park

I LOVE those things. We've spent the last few trips tracking down as many coin crushers/pressers (Do these machines have a name?) and running real copper pennies and silver quarters (the quarter in the far left slot appears to be the one that always get's crushed so we put the silvers there) through them. They come out way different than "New" coins do.

    Never tried foreign currency.

Anybody know how many of these machines there actually are in the park(s)?

Yes I have used foreign coins in the pressed penny machines. Sometimes they work and sometimes not so good. My best was a beautiful cent like coin from the Bahamas that turned out very pretty pressed. Here is a link to my friend Bob's site. It has all the DLR Penny info you could ever want:

For some reason I read the title "pressler coins at the park" and I got scared.

Pressed coins work with Canadian coins. My sister pressed some when she was here last year. Don't remeber what denomination she put in the machine thou.

Re: Pressed Coins at the Park

Depends on the coin mechanism. Coins inserted are measured, size, and metallic content. If those parameters are not met, either the coins get ejected, or they just plain jam.
I would not suggest putting in foreign pennies, you may just jam up a machine, and honestly, pennies aren't hard to come by.
The sheet available at city hall has the location of all the penny press machines in the resort, and what designs they carry. Keep in mind though, it is not 100% accurate at all times. The sheet is not constantly updated, designs change, and just like 'missing' animatronics that people notice in the attractions, they are sometimes pulled out of service for maintenance. Also other weird stuff, such as the 2005, 50th anniversary penny press machine used to be in Piece's of Eight, and the sheet still says this, but that really isn't the case at the moment.
As has been suggested before, use pre-1982 pennies if at all possible. Back then the copper content was higher, post-1982 the zinc content was raised and those pennies don't make quite as good souveniors. Of course I've recently read that according to the mint, the penny now costs more thana penny to make again, so the copper content will probably be adjusted downwards again in the following years.

I found one on the floor near the McDonalds in Disney's California Adventure. I can't bother finding it now, but I remember it had Kermit on it (:

We're always having fun in the Fun and Games Lounge. Care to visit us?

Hey Thanks for the link. Cool site. Glad to see I'm not the only one ... I've been pressing my spare DL change in these things most of my life.

Seems like a lot of trouble when you consider how easy it is to get American coins... O_o
