Is there any way for APs to get Early Entry?

Or is that something you have to stay at a resort hotel for?

yes, if you stay at one of the hotels on property.

one time my mother had her AP, but ours had expired, so we bought 3 day park hoppers before we upgraded. They came with early entry, but we did not use it, because my mother could not go in....but it was ok..

We were staying at the GCH and our friends weren't, but we just told the people at the gate that they were with us and they let them come in with us - no problems.
