Disneyland Splash Mountain construction photos, part 2

Scanned and uploaded part 2 of my SM construction photos. The (same) scanner didn't seem to do as good a job this time and the photos are a little darker, but still came out ok.

These photos cover steel work on the main ride building as well as foundation for the main splash and return area, plus installation of the riverboat and closing up of the train tunnel. I included several more closeups which I hope you will all enjoy. The main steel on the front ride building went up in about 2 weeks and the time since the last photos was 3 weeks, so I missed seeing the steel installed.

Parts 3 and 4 coming soon...

Yes, I took them all. All 900+ photos. ;-) I'm pulling out just the ones that are interesting and non-repetitive.

FYI, I'm an engineer, love architecture, construction and photography, am a HUGE Disneyland fan, had an AP back then (and now too) and live in Southern California, so it all worked out well. Oh, and I forgot to mention, I'm just crazy enough to want to take all those trips up to DL.

Hey, for anyone trying to check out the photos I uploaded... apparently Flickr is having some big problems right now. Many of my photos are currently listed as unavailable. Sorry about that, but please check back later, hopefully they will have fixed the bug.

There are two photos in the second set... Flickr was just working for me a few minutes ago... Maybe it hiccuped and ate them.
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Only see two photos, so more must be coming. Thanks for sharing what you have. It's really interesting to see the process of how they built this ride and the others.

Re: Disneyland Splash Mountain construction photos, part 2

When I uploaded them earlier today, there were some strange things happening. Other people's photos were getting mixed in with mine, so I had to delete those and re-upload mine. Anyway, long story short, it looks like Flickr is definitely having some major "hiccups" right now. Hopefully it will be back to normal soon!

Yep, it gets a little mixed up, but this second set of pictures is fantastic. I'm looking forward to more.

I know they're not as cool as a new shed, but I've restored the photos in set 2. Flickr was taking too long to fix their problem, so I simply deleted all the old unfound photos and re-uploaded them. Seemed to work.

    Enjoy!

New shed?! All photos can't be as exciting and dynamic as the shed thread. Sorry about that.

Seriously though: these photos are some of the best content related posts in months. There are a lot of Splash fans out there. Furthermore, the vast majority of us here are Disneyland geeks and appreciate anything like this.

Thanks! I was just making light of the "shed photo thread". ;-)

I think Splash Mountain and POTC are by far the most interesting rides from an engineering and construction standpoint. They involve water, lifts, drops, multiple floors, front and back ride buildings, go under (and in SM's case, over) the train tunnel. Very integrated into the surrounding area.

If only there were construction photos of POTC!!
