Once in a blue moon do I see electric/gas hybrid cars on the road - absolutely zero that are 100% electric. How long it will take for any form of electric car to become commonplace for the average driver remains yet to be determined, The Tokyo Autopia cars are a far cry from Buck Rogers. They do, however, represent the future - a pragmatic tomorrow that we may experience in our lifetimes.
In terms of setting, one only has to take a look around both urban and rural areas of their own town or area. In doing so, it is quite obvious that the infrastructural buildings, streets, and transportation are not of the same era. Some were created during the current decade, and others span back in time to many different eras. Why would the future be any different? Sameness would be so generic.
That being said, the cleanliness of the roads and manicured scenery of Autopia represent an awesome future that I would like to see. I have never seen any litter, even on the off-road areas. Consider all of this along with Monorails traveling overhead, along with the rumored PeopleMover replacement. Talk about a great big beautiful tomorrow.
An electric "Cars" theme would add character to the world that lies ahead - hopefully just up the road.
