Interesting comments about Disneyland on National Review Online

    http://corner.nationalreview.com/pos...mVkOTM5NDExYTc=

    Mickey Mouse Thoughts [Mark Krikorian]

Some random observations on Disneyland (I’ve been in southern California all week):

    * Watching a show with that Honda robot walking up and down stairs and the rest, all I could think of is that the Japanese are developing humanoid robots and we’re importing illiterates from south of the border – who’s going to end up with the better deal?

    * The movie on California’s history at California Adventure is undiluted leftist agit-prop — with Whoopie Goldberg as the host, no less.

    * Practically every ride tells you to buckle your seatbelt and watch your
children in Spanish, even though I heard only a handful of actual visitors actually speaking Spanish.

    * Not having been on the Jungle Cruise in decades, I was pleased to see that it still insensitively features native tribesmen dancing and hurling spears.

    Offensively features native tribesman?

Firstly these tribesmen do exist, they are more of a real thing then a stereotype, and I'm sure they really do not care. They prefer to be isolated from the rest of the world (sometimes I don't blame them), and they won't even know what Disneyland is.

I like how he seems to be all upset over the stereotyping of the tribesmen, but then he stereotypes immigrants right before.

I think he was being sarcastic about the tribesman. He was expecting Disney to have removed them.

He sounds like an ignorant bigot to me.

I understand what he was trying to say. I will grant that he did not go into detail and articulate his reasoning which opens him up for misinterpretation. But what I got from it was how PC Disneyland has become since it opened. We've had this discussion before in this forum about Disneyland becoming too PC. Even our beloved founder, Al Lutz, frequently admits that Disneyland is too PC. These comments come from a casual observer, who does not frequently visit Disneyland, and has not seen the positive changes that have occured. What this does tell me, is why a lot of people from middle America don't go to Disneyland or are often dissappointed. Being in Air Force, I have heard similiar things from people who I work with and come from all over the country. As I said, he did a poor job in showing his logic. But don't be too quick to judge.

Interesting, the people who claim that they are tollerant of others and their opinions, and stress that society should be just as tollerant, often are the least intollerant when someone else does not have the same lookout on life as they do.

Why don't we just sort out how this thread is going to go, and save ourselves some effort?

Most liberals and California natives: you'll chime in and call him a bigot, say nasty things about NRO, Bush, or some other conservative icon, or say some other general negative thing.

Conservatives: make a snarky response or just generally ignore the whole thread because you know it's a lost cause. (Especially California conservatives, who have long learned that getting into these kinds of discussions just never ends the way you want them to.)

Everyone else: try to make peace, be reasonible...and eventually join the conservatives in snarky responses or ignoring.

(Hint: this would qualify as a snarky response, although I may be outing myself)

What about those of us who are neither Liberal or Conservative... or better yet, are BOTH depending on the topic, who can't stand NRO in general, but agree with some of the topics IN NRO????

Can I combine your predictions for the libs and cons and make snarky responses about Bush?
