People seem to most miss: the pedalboat marina; Fantasy Waters; the Monorail Cafe; the rooftop lounge; and, the underwater arcade. I know I do.

All those RVs look like that picture might actually be from "Vacationland"

It went along with the whole marina theme that the hotel had going on.

The deal was started in 1988 and finalized by 1989 just after Bonita Granville wrather passed away. I have a copy of the first ever formal luncheon agenda and seating assignments for the meeting with Disney and the Wrathers. Michael Eisner specifically requested to be seated next to Bonita in a handwritten noat on his copy. I think this was dated 1986 or 1987.

Interesting information on the hotel history. Thanks for that!

    Oogie,

How did you scan those in. I have some slides from the early 60's I would like to scan.

Oogie, out of everything you've posted, it's the Disneyland Hotel that fascinates me most, to my great surprise. Everything else in the park you can place and trace in modern (current) Disneyland. But the Hotel, parking lot, and monorail pics, especially the marina pics, just look like a completely different place, with nothing recognizable today.

I suppose that goes to show you how much that part of the resort property has really, really changed.

Re: Pictures from the Disneyland Hotel.. late 60's / early 70's

Interestingly enough, I saw a letter from one of the executives at Wrather Corporation from 1957 advising Jack Wrather to sell the Disneyland Hotel. I spoke with Chris Wrather and he told me how much his father loved the Disneyland Hotel. It was his favorite venture and he dearly loved everything about it. He said his father was never more excited than when he knew he was going to the Hotel.

I have been working on Disney for some time now to put up some sort of tribute or memorial to Jack Wrather. A nice photo with a nice inscription just to pay tribute to the man who helped his friend Walt Disney by building the Disneyland Hotel.

I gave the slides to my sister in law. She has a scanner that has an attachment for scanning negatives and slides. It takes a lot longer to scan slides than pictures, thats why everyplace that scans slides charges so much. If you are interested in getting a scanner that can do slides as well as pictures, it will cost you around $100 up.
