Some very retro DL pix from 1961

While surfing the net, I found a Disney enthusiasts blog in which some pictures from 1961 were posted. Many of these are scenes that I had never seen before so I thought I'd share them with you. Pictures are from : http://gorillasdontblog.blogspot.com/

    Here's Adventureland

    A shop on Main Street

    Main Street

    The Entrance

    The skyway before the Matterhorn

The Chicken Plantation... before New Orleans Square...

    The Viewliner...

    Growing older is manditory
    Growing up is however, optional

Wow, those are really neat pictures. Thanks for posting that. Things looked pretty bare before NOS went in.

Those are truly awesome photos - - but older than 1961. Matterhorn, Monorail and Submarine Voyage opened in 1959.

I love how the interior of the Main Street Shops originally looked like the authentic period.

    Ditto...these are GREAT SHOTS!

But they seem to be from different time periods. Also notice how the monorail is only in the middle shot, and the last couple of shots are what....future train?

Geez, the park looks SO empty back then...

People complain about the 98 TL and other things around the park...
but atleast it isn't empty space!

It is unbelievable to imagine that Walt opened the park on such a
sparce number of rides and attractions compared with what is today!
(But quite frankly, it probably would have overwhelmed the 50s folk!)
