These acronyms are getting out of hand

Really people do we need to use so many acronyms? Its getting out of hand. I have to stop and think about "NoS" for about 5 min before giving up and reading the thread. After reading the thread I was able to deduce that it stood for New Orleans Square. There are things like...
    NoS
    PoTC
    IASW
    DTD
    DLR
    DCA
    SBC
    BPB
    BTMRR
    RTM
    MGTTIOOC
    My personal example sentence...

    In acronym speak:
MTT in DLR is next to IASW. It has RRCS which is better than BLAB! I love MC bc I can post about ADR! YAY!

    Translated:
Mickeys Toon Town in Disneyland Resort is next to Its A Small World. It has Roger Rabbits Cartoon Spin which is better than Buzz Lightyears Astro Blasters! I love Mice Chat because I can post about Any Disney Resort! Alright!

You must not work for the government. There are acronyms for every field, pursuit, etc. Give it a little time and you'll be an expert. There are still quite a few that I am unsure about, but I just haven't cared enough to look into.

I was a bit confused at first, but after a while I just got so used to it that I'll refer to the attractions in acronym form when I'm at the park...especially HM and IASW.

I can understand using acronyms for things like rides. Thats not so hard to figure out. What gets me is when people use them from things like parades, locations in the resorts and basically anything that isnt a ride!

The list of abbreviations isn't specific to MC per se. Every online Disney community I've been a part of uses the same ones. It's a little daunting at first, but you get used to it the more time you spend on any of them
As a matter of fact, most <insert interest/profession here> have a list of abbreviations and acronyms that are frequently used.

Here's a partial listing if you need some more assistance:

Visionsfantastic has a system where acronyms are hilighted and when you mouse over it translates the acronyms... we should do that.

Bravo, bravo. That's one of the things that peeves me about many of the posts here. So many acronyms that you need a translation book or something. I always type out things that could be made into an acronym, just as a way to turn the tide the other way...

Acronyms - are part of this site- you just have to get used to them and constantly think about the subject that you are dealing with. It still takes me a few minutes to figure out what people are talking about sometimes, but it sure does make typing your post alot faster.

Re: These acronyms are getting out of hand

If it takes people to a few minutes to figure out what a thread is about or what the title to a thread says then... thats a problem!

I dont read EVERY thread on Mice Chat, I pick what I read by the titles. So now I cant understand some acronyms (not because im new to message boards, jobs or Disneyland Ive been going since before I could speak) and spend a few minuets trying to figure them out, give up and have to spend time reading a thread. Now I waste more time figuring out what the thread is about only to find out its something I didnt want to read in the first place!

Re: These acronyms are getting out of hand

I think that using them helps people reply faster and offer more assistance/info then if they had to spell out everything. I would rather have someone use them and reply to my post/question, then just skip replying all together, which is much easier. It's really not that big a deal, just learn the abbreviations and you'll be fine.
