    Monorails and Matterhorn refurbs..

Just saw these dates for the refurbs coming up..

    Monorails closed Aug 21 - Dec 14.
The Dec date may not be true, but there could be a chance they want to have one Monorail running for the Christmas crowds.

    Matterhorn closed Aug 28 - Nov 21.
Back to the long refurbs here like they did before the 50th.

    Re: Monorails and Matterhorn refurbs..

It's about time the Matterhorn got a major refurb. It was truly cutting edge and state of the art when it opened in 1959. It was the first steel tube roller coaster in the world, and the first to use a system of brake zones, which are now used by just about every coaster built. And I'm pretty sure the ride system hasn't changed since then. The bobsleds changed, but that's about it. Needs a freaking update.

My money is on the Monorail closing down a little earlier. This one-way shuttle thing is absolutely hell on both the train and the track. I'm a bit surprised it's still even running.

The monorail broke down on June 11th. Here's the strange tow vehicle that zipped out and took it away ... (and which I've never seen before). Maybe it's time for a refurb!

You can also tell the mechanics are checking the track for any visible damage or possible trouble spots, I've noticed they sometimes have like two or three guys looking at the track from different angles and also slowing down if they spot something. It's interesting to watch. Neat to watch when they close down at night.

That puts a bit of a damper on some of the things that my grandson will not be able to do, when he visits Disneyland for the first time. Our vacation is from August the 27th until September the 3rd. If Sean wants to ride the Matterhorn, he will have to get there on our very first day in the park.

LMAO!!!!! Well lets see, there was a MAJOR refurb in 1978. There were the major rehabs every single year except last year, in which nearly the entire track was taken out and replaced a section a year.

I'm not sure what could be changed without demolishing the entire mountain.

    Re: Monorails and Matterhorn refurbs..

I rode the Matterhorn last Sunday and all I could think was how "artless" it felt. I know it was the first steel tube track coaster but next to SM or California Screamin' it really feels like a 50 year old ride in serious need of a refurb.

Does anyone know when or if the Monorails will start running a round trip again? Are they ever going to be linked to the hotels again?

And most importantly ...what happened to the spellchecker here at MC?

    Re: Monorails and Matterhorn refurbs..

Well I just booked our trip for November 18th-22nd. My little girl want's to go for her 9th Birthday and since she had to have her appendix out last Friday we let her choose which hotel she wanted to stay at even. (She chose Disneyland Hotel of course.) I'm glad we are planning on turning our park hoppers into APs so we can hit Matterhorn in the morning on the 22nd before we leave town. I've finally got my kids to promise to go on it this next visit since out of the past 5 years every time we've gone it's only been open twice and they've been too chicken. They just don't believe that's it's not scary.

The matterhorn Ones a year or ones two year Disney need shut down the ride to check the tube. ride have sharp turn can wear the tube faster. Now day this type of ride do not have the sharps turn.

then monorail will do a round trip in spring of 2007.
the linked to hotels, I do think it going to happen.

I think AKfandisney is right - the report I got said that the vehicle you see above came out when the monorail broke down.

That’s is the monorail tractor... WDW has a few in the barn that comes out for maintenance and pulling a dead monorail.

My guess it was going to the monorail to pull and along the way inspect the track for cracks and such…

I want to ride on the mule/tractor. That would be kind of cool.
