Redwood Creek Challenge; $1 to cross bridge

I came across this on Monday at DCA. While in RCC, I had reached the top of the rope climb to the top of the tower. My kids (7 and 4) were about 50 feet in front of me and I noticed they were somewhat cornered by 3 other kids who were about 11 or 12. When I got closer, I realized the 3 kids were actually demanding $1 from each of my kids to pass through.

I got my kids and went to the CM who was at the entrance of RCC and advised him of the situation. You could see the top of the rope climb from his position. Sure enough, he saw it going on and alerted security immediately.

After a very quick response, the 3 kids were taken away by the security guards. One guard met with me and asked me what had happened. All of this was taken very seriously by the security guards and I am sure I won't be seeing this again at the park.

I do not know if these kids were with anyone, but it seems like they must have done this before.

Don't assume your kids are safe by being in this area, nor the entire park. It is very large and you CANNOT keep an eye on them all the time. That is why I follow them throughout the entire attraction. I don't stay right on top of them, but I always keep them in view. I am glad I did that yesterday.

I know this is a serious matter and I am glad that security responded in a timely manner but I couldn't help but laugh as well. It seems that bullies always find ways to take the milk money, even at theme parks.

Your tip about not assuming your kids are safe is also a good one.

It's good to know that security was there quickly.
I wonder if any kids actually gave in and gave up there money and didn't say anything because they were scared, etc.
Talk about a great way to ruin a kids day.
Hopefully those little bullies were turned over to their families and all of them were tossed from the parks.

Under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

If that were the rule, stuff like this wouldn't happen.

I wonder how much $$ the little snots got, and if they had to give it back. But then what to do with the purloined funds? They wouldn't know who to give it back too. Donate it to charity I guess, along with all the money that gets tossed into the wishing well, and other water locations.

It is nice to hear security was right on this though. Just too bad it happened...though I am suprised it hasn't been an issue before.

I'm glad security took it seriously and hope they had the daylights scared out of them so they don't do it again.

I want too say 2 "Thank you's" here.

#1, to you for saying something! A lot of people now a days wont say something when they see something wrong happening, not wanting to get involved.

#2, to the CM's and security that did something! Sure it was just 3 kids asking for a $, but NOT doing something only encourages un-acceptable behavior. If only they are so prompt in removing adults from the park.

You did a good thing that day. Thanks. Nobody should turn a blind eye to this stuff, weather they are 11, or 40 years old. Weather its a 1$ or 1 cent.

You showed great restraint, TacAlert. Had I witnessed what you did, I probably would have been escorted away by security for the violence I would have inflicted on the hoodlums.

I'm just glad this did not happen under Eisner's reign. I can see it now, the boys are escorted to his office, where they are hired/promoted to the heads of toll collecting. They would become permanent fixtures on the bridge, excpet they would now charge $5 a person to cross. They would also have Bill Goats Gruff costumes and be touted as the newest attraction at California Adventure. "From the Brilliant Minds that brought you Superstar Limo and the Maliboomer. Come see the newest attraction at Disney's California Adventure... The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Watch the magic as they live up to their fairy tale legends and demand money to allow you to cross a bridge. Delight as they knock non-paying cheapskates over the side of the bridge. Now doing daily appearances on the rope bridge on the Redwood Challenge Trail in Disney's California Adventure."
