Question Haunted Manion Holiday Music Yr1 vs. Yr2/current

I know I know, its a little like talking to your friends about who would win a fight, Batman or Superman....or who would win a foot race, Superman or the Flash. But with the 50th set coming out and them finally officially releasing the first year score for Haunted Mansion Holiday....I gotta know, which years score do you prefer.

I know some people (my friend in particular) HATE that they made Haunted Mansion Holiday TOO Jack Skellingtonish with the change over to the Nightmare score in the second year, but I LOVE the second year/current score. It is so much more complex musically, with the use of the saxaphone and harpsicord plus its darker and more lavish. Year ones score was just too tinkly and simplistic, plus it just sounded generic with the use of classic christmas music and lacked the definate theme that the current score has.

What do you think? and gimme a quick why for what you picked, Im just curious what people think...

I like the current version... but I also like minor changes each year.... it keeps it fresh.

I also like the fact that upgrade the regular version when they do the switch over in Jan.

I thought the year 1 music was awful. It was way too happy and normal holiday-y - fine if it's just for Xmas but if the attraction opens in time for Halloween I think the music ought to have a slightly more morbid sensibility. It was really the only thing I didn't like about the first year HMH.

I hate the current soundtrack. It's a total cut & paste job. Kidnap The Sandy Claws looping in every room doesn't cut it for me. I like the original soundtrack. It did not distract from the attraction & managed to mix Christmas songs like Deck The Halls, Carol Of The Bells with some original music and not be totally annoying. I think the 2002/current soundtrack sucks. Some of you may not remember this but the stretch room music from the 2002 version was so terrible they removed it within a week & replaced it with the 2001 stretch room music.

In my opinion, they got it right the first time. I only rode Haunted Mansion Holiday 1 time last year and I have no desire to ride it this year. That's how much I hate the current music.

I agree but the only thing I like better is the louder glass breaking in the stretching room.

    I vote for....

I voted for the original HMH score. I believe that the original score was really based upon the Haunted Mansion, and made an even split between NBC and the Haunted Mansion. The new score really is just NBC, and has no Haunted Mansion influence. The original's music box music in the foyer, and the haunting version of Carol of the Bells, and of course that jazzy tune in the graveyard, all made the 2001 score very well done. The only real benefit of the new score is that it is much more instrumental, and has the harpsichord version of Kidnap the Sandy Claws. (I can't get enough of that!)

I voted for Year One. However, I do get a big kick out of the Elfmanized score when I'm actually in The Mansion. The "kidnap the Sandy Claws" over and over is just so absurd and hilarious.

But if I'm just listening to the score (like in my car or at home) I much prefer Year One. It seems more elegant and Mansion-ish. It was writeen by the same composer who did Phantom Manor, which I love.

And as far as the Graveyard scene goes, Year One is hands down the best. I don't like the way the Elfman score was shoehorned into the constraints of the existing vocals so that the AA's wouldn't have to be reprogrammed. It's just incredibly distracting for me. But then, I'm a music teacher, so I'm sort of a geek about stuff like that.

I, too, have heard stories about the infamous Year Two Stretching Room score, but I've never actually heard it. Anyone know where I can hear it?

I didn't get to go to HMH in Year One. I think the first time I went was in Year Three? Although I can't be sure, it might have been Year Two. Obviously, I wasn't hearing the "horrible stretch room music" because I was 15 or 16 at the time and OF COURSE HM was my favorite ride and OF COURSE TNBC was my favorite "Disney" film at the time... so I was just enjoying it, and in awe of it all!

I really think that HMH year 1 was better as it set the tone for a haunted Christmas

    ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ME???????????

The first year is the best....that is why when the 50th box set comes out that will be included on it!!!! Well sure it could be because they have the newer version out on a disk in the park but I still think it is better!!!!

    J

P.S.--Batman would win as we have seen over and over again and Flash would win in a foot race!!!
