Re: The new Golden Dreams banners - "Starring Whoopi Goldberg"

When I went to DCA I honestly didn't know that building contained a show. I even knew about the Vinyard and Tortilla factory and I couldn't even find those areas too. Basically, DCA's attractions are so minimalist that I must've walked by a quarter of them without even realizing there was a ride there. This banner will at least help people to see there is actually a show inside there.

I have kind of a bad sense of direction to begin with though. I even get lost inside Disneyland sometimes! It's only by visualizing the overhead view of the park, which being a huge Disneyland fan I obviously know backwards and forwards, that I know where to go. Without the detailed mental picture of Disneyland from above, there'd be no way I could get around, lol.

Re: The new Golden Dreams banners - "Starring Whoopi Goldberg"

I think they're desperate to get the audience count up for the show, since from the outside it's really not obvious what goes on in there. And they figured a Good Ol' dose of Shameless Publicity might do it.

Though the wording is self serving, they should have gone more like "Starring Whoopi Goldberg as Queen Calafia", and at least mentioned a few of the other principle actors in the show. Or they could do a half-dozen different banners for the other portals in the Dome, each crediting the other actors.

But they may be creating more problems for themselves by opening up that particular lid of Pandora's Box - now the rest of the cast and crew of 'Golden Dreams' might want to get credit for their work on the film, too... Ever notice how there isn't a "Credit Crawl" at the end of any of Disney's movie-based attractions?

If anyone does complain, there's a simple solution - print a single-sheet tri-fold for each show with the cast and crew credits, and interesting production notes and trivia, available upon request from any Attraction Host CM, or at City Hall/Guest Relations.

I'm sure the purpose of this is to increase the number of people that see this attraction? Maybe people didn't know a "big star" (ahem) like Whoopi was in the film, so assuming that's the case, it just might work.

This is kind of off-topic, but did Whoopi Goldberg ever have eyebrows? That's always kind of bugged me.

Even the idea of this show has always elicited yawns from me, but I've gotta admit... that sign is well designed and makes it a lot more obvious that there's something in there besides the facade.

So I wonder how this plays into the rumors that Whoopi was ego-tripping about the possible movement of the show to a smaller theater? Did she demand more obvious billing in an attempt to keep the show where it is?

If it brings people into the show I guess it's a good idea. It's a VERY nice theatre.

But ... is she like the queen of SoCal theme parks now? She's in Golden Dreams and is now all over the Universal tram ... heck, she's the new Ron Howard.

I'm not really a Whoopi fan either. If i knew she was in it I probably wouldn't have seen it the one and only time that I did.

It's a great place to escape the heat on a summer afternoon. The show's just a bunch of blather but the seats and air conditioning make it putting up with.

Meh. I don't think the "Starring Whooopi Goldberg" will or will not help, but I think that poster design is absolutely terrible. Ugh.

Re: The new Golden Dreams banners - "Starring Whoopi Goldberg"

The banner is not very well-designed, but it probably will attract more attention.

Whoopi Goldberg has a recognizable face, so I don't understand the need to add her name to the banner. I think that move may very well be counterproductive since most people already don't understand who Queen Califia is.

I think "Golden Dreams" is one of the only true Disney attractions in the new park, but a big reason some guests don't like it is because the attraction currently doesn't explain very well the identity of Queen Califia as the goddess ruler of the mythical island paradise from which California takes its name.

The banner should be more about California and less about Whoopi Goldberg, ultimately.
