    question about pirates breakdown

I've noticed there has been alot of talk about the frequent shutdowns of pirates in the past couple days. Does anyone know the cause of the shutdown? does it have to do with the new features? would a soft opening of the ride made this problem non-existent?

by the way I'm a new memeber and i just gotta say i love this friggin' site!

    Re: question about pirates breakdown

I believe one person mentioned in one of the threads that sensor problems were the primary cause of the breakdowns.
Warning: Portions of this attraction are intense and may not be appropriate for younger children.

If you are in the watery portions of the ride, how do you get evacuated?

There are sensors that tell when to let the boats progress thorough the ride (a traffic light)

To that end I'd like the Internet community to join me in reminding the Disney company that "it all started with Walt." As you can see below we've created some T-shirts, plus a few simple graphics that you can copy and paste into your websites to let folks know how you feel.

    Re: question about pirates breakdown

Pirates takes a LOOOOOONG time to evac, so I've heard. First of all, it holds tons of people, especially running at full capacity. I don't know if it's true because I was never an NOS CM, but I've heard they actually have to pull ppl from other depts to help clear out the attraction when they do it, and it still takes somewhere from 1-2 hours. But that could just be rumor, because I'm pretty sure you have to be signed off on the attraction in order to tag out to go evac it (you did on the attraction I worked on).

Anyway, they have certain points in the ride that people can be walked out from... the rest, well, someone puts on some waders and pushes the boat to that point!

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Not sure if it's true but in the battle scene and burning city scene they have submerged walkways that can rise up, they are made of a cage type metal that allows the water to fall through, but that might be one way to be evacuated... then again I'm not sure if this is true, this is just what I've heard.

when I got stuck on pirates a guy came out with waders on and puilled the boat forward and we exited out near the burning city/jail scene..out the exit, up some stairs and out into NOS..

I got stuck at the autioneer part and we got up, close and personal with the AA's. We couldn't touch them though. This was a while back in 6th grade though.

A soft opening would not have solved the problem, but it would've made it much easier for the guests to handle. When you warn people that the ride is not officially open, breakdowns might occur and the ride is in a constant state of testing during the soft open it helps grease the wheels a little better than "Pirates is open today, come see it right now".

    Re: question about pirates breakdown

Pirates runs around 2800 - 3000 people per hour at full cap. the ride itelf lasts 15 minutes (14:30 to be exact, but 15 for round numbers.) If you take 3000 people and divide it by four, thats how many people could be on the ride at any given moment. (thats 750 for thouse who dont feel like doing the math.

And my Ex-g/f tells me that they do pull leads from other areas to assist in GC of almost 800 people.
