Angry Potc - No Flash Photography Puhleeze!

As I do appreciate the pictures everyone is posting on this forum, I must say you guys are also the same people (in general) that I hate on rides! When we rode pirates on Wednesday night there were flashes going off all over and all around us. Talk about annoying!

First off it makes it difficult to transition between the dark and light portions of the ride when flashes are constantly going off because your eyes don't have enough time to adjust!

Second, it is called a Dark Ride for a reason! The entire ambiance is destroyed by momentary flashes of light! This was truly demonstrated when coming up onto Davy Jones! All the flashes practically diminished his presence. Also the skeleton and the ships wheel display. Flashes destroyed the lightning effects.

And finally, it is requested of no flash photography on the dark rides! Need pictures? Buy the bloody postcards!

The worst is people with video cameras and they have that dang spotlight on it. This happened to me in febuary. The CM came over the loud speaker and asked them 3 times to turn it off. They didnt understand english. They finnaly put it away but it really does ruin the ride.Good thing noebody was in the park, I just rode it again really quik.

Im bored, lets go to Disneyland.

I wonder if you were in the exact same boat with me...

When my friends and I went in the morning on the 26th, there was a man sitting behind us that was taking flash pictures. We had just gotten to the bar scene. My friend's eyes were hurting really badly from it...she told him 3 times to stop, but he was playing dumb. Finally my boyfriend turned around to make it clear that she wanted him to stop because it was hurting her eyes. Yeesh.

The thing most people don't realize is that your picture will come out better if you take it without the flash. Oye.

Re: Potc - No Flash Photography Puhleeze!

I know, that bugs me also. I have to say, at this point, one week after the ride has opened, we don't need flash pictures. It's not "breaking news" anymore, and the official pictures from Disney, and from the press previews, are enough to get a look at the changes.

When I was one of the first to ride it Sunday morning, there was a cast member at the front that told us to "put your camera away", as we tried to take pictures of the line! The cast member told us sternly, no pictures, no flash photographs, period. Not wanting to risk being told we couldn't see the preview, we put the camera away.

I then asked the cast member loading the boats, and he told me you CAN take pictures, but make sure there is NO flash.

And so I did. I took several pictures, which I posted here, which were crappy because they didn't have flash, but they were some of the first from an actual rider. (And from the front row, no less). I don't see the benefit in spoiling everyone else's "first look", and with Pirates, or the Haunted Mansion, for that matter, the natural lighting of the scenes gives you a better "look and feel" of the attraction, than abnormally lit flash photographs. Even then, I knew that DaddyB, and Darkbeer, with larger 8mp cameras, would be posting better pictures than I did, so I didn't feel the journalistic urge to "get the shot" at the expense of everyone else's experience (or my being reprimanded by cast members).

It's just a matter of both following rules, as well as being considerate of others.

Yes, I agree, there have been plenty of GREAT photo's posted so far (and I'm sure more to follow), and yes, I agree that the flashes can be annoying.

I also know that since the ride is "new", that there are going to be plenty of folks flashing away on it, so it is almost "to be expected".

If I was enjoying the ride today, I would have more tolerance for flash photography. In six months...maybe not.

Hey you guys! I totally agree with you on how cool flash photography is! I mean I was on POTC and set my flash to like the max "Blinding Rays of the Sun" setting and got this totally rad picture of the Aztec Treasure Chest! And I was so nice too. I only had to take out the eyesight of a 5 year old boy, a 9 year old girl and their grandmother! Even without eyesight they appreciated the beauty of my picture!

P.S. = Yes, that was sarcasm. I've had 3 Diet Rock Stars and 4 cans of Diet Coke in the last 4 hours. Go me!

And I think the time has ended for flash photography on POTC and Haunted Mansion unless they add something that in fact noone has ever seen or there is a travesty that needs to be recorded for posterity or... evidence.

I had a similar experience, but on HM, years ago. I took ONE flash pic of the Chandelier in the foyer room because it looks nice and some people gave me "The Look". I mean it is not like I took pictures in the ride or anything, just a picture in the foyer room

But yeah, I really don't take pictures in the rides, because I know that regardless they wont turn out good.

I can't agree more! In rides like pirates it is really anoying, in rides like the haunted mansion it ruins all the effects.

Wow! Sadako is defined as a "mystery woman" or "the little girl that made a thousand cranes!" I think that THIS Sadako should be defined and categorized as a Disney villain! Poor little 5 year old, 9 year old, and grandmother!

If Disney actually :gasp: inforced their own rules, we wouldn't even be discussing this...

If you're experiencing trouble with shutterbugs on a ride, just remember,"a squirt-gun is your friend".
