Wow, what cool pics! The parade looks really elaborate (and really LONG). Some of the floats are random - popcorn.....? Also, the colonial people look wierd; it would have been better if they were face characters, rather than masked characters. I still say Mickey and the rest of the gang look MUCH better now than during the earlier days of Disneyland (50s - 80s).

I'm young, but I still remember the days of elaborate DL parades - Hercules, Mulan, etc. back in the late 90s. I LOVE PARADE OF DREAMS, but Parade of the Stars - yuck!!!

You don't know the half of it.

In 1976, Knotts actually beat Disneyland for total attendance. July 1976 was the highest attendance Knotts had ever gotten. Knotts broke records during that month, leaving Disneyland completely in the dust.

    But that was 1976.

Knotts has never seen those kinds of attendance records again!

Thanks for those great pics. Oogie! I was actually born AFTER the run of America on Parade (1976 in October) but I am happy to say that I own the Super 8mm movies of the parade, slides and have the parade's soundtrack on the large 12 in Picture Disc.

A BIT OF TRIVIA of America On Parade-
Paul Beaver, the man who performed the original MSEP music from 1972-1974 was originally commisioned to contribute to the Sadie Mae Organ sounds but died while the project was gearing up. The Moog sounds in the soundtrack were performed by Don Dorsey, who would later update the electro-synthe-magnetic musical sounds of the MSEP. Don was hired by the late Jack Wagner, the Voice of Disneyland. The musical results of the parade are astounding and I plan on playing it tomorrow.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July everyone!

It was my first visit was the year this parade came out. I still have my guidebook, and also the souvenir book from how the parade was created. It has a lot of photos inside. Thanks again Oogie!

OOGIE!!! THANK YOU!!! While I never got to see DL's version of "America on Parade", I did see the WDW version which was rather similar. I even have the viewmaster reels for both these parades!!! This is the time when Disney parades were HUGE!! Oh the momories coming back right now!!! The week we spent at WDW from July 1st - 6th 1976 was probably the best time I have ever had at Disney ever!!! Looking at this pictures from DL was like taking a trip back in time. I am very appreciative of your effort on this topic. KUDOS!!! *snif*

Thanks for sharing. I was only a year old when this parade ran. I have a book I got off ebay of the parade. I love how the parade was so long and has so many pieces. In one of your pictures was a bunch of the old latex Mickey balloons. So, sad that those are gone. They bring back memories from when I was a kid.
