    riding a ride w/ characters

I've always wondered....because it's always been a dream of mine. How exactly do you end up getting the opportunity to ride a ride with a disney character at disneyland? You don't ask them to ride w/ you, do you? Or, I don't know. I was just kinda wondering who has gotten to ride w/ a character and how you came to get this once in a life time chance.
    Just recently got into this,

    sorry if i sound dumb,

It's mainly just being in the right place at the right time. You can try asking the character escort that is with a character, but they can only do so much. Remember that the character needs to be in theme, and they can't ride dark rides.

I've never thought of that before but it sounds like it would be really neat. You probably couldn't get one of the princesses since they usually have a huge dress, but I'd like Alice or countryside Belle to accompany me on one of the rides. The trouble is, these characters would look horribly out of place on something like Peter Pan or Casey Jr. and I don't know if they could go outside Fantasyland for rides.

It's an excellent idea though, I'll have to ask next time I'm there.

The Mad Hatter and Alice are at the Mad Tea Party all the time. Unfortunately, the one time they boarded the ride when I was on it...it was in the teacup next too me!

I've seen Goofy with what looked like an 8 year old on time in Tomorrowland...though. Not sure how that all fit in, but it looked like the character and the little boy was having an amazing time!

Re: riding a ride w/ characters

Actually, Wendy (from Peter Pan fame) took my 4 year old daughter and another girl on the Peter Pan ride (a dark ride) and also on the Carrousel!

We were at WDW a few months ago and went on a tour called something like Find the Magic or something like that. Well, it was a kid-friendly tour where we all did a scavenger hunt for a few hours throughout the MK. At the very end, Peter Pan and Wendy came out and had a personal meet and greet with our group of 15 or so.

After that, Peter said he was going to go with us all to see Mickey's Philharmagic (a 3-D show) but my DD had already seen it and the other little girl in our group was too scared to see it, so Wendy offered to take them somewhere else! So Wendy took both their hands and off we went to the very front of a long line at Peter Pan's ride and went right on! Wendy sat in a car with the 2 girls and I sat in the next car with the other mom. After that, we went on the Carrousell all together.

When Mickey's Philharmagic was over, my husband said that everyone in the audience was totally stoked to see Peter Pan in the audience and when his part in the movie came up, everyone cheered.

It was definitely cool! I'd share pix but I haven't joined the digital age yet...

I think it's mostly a random thing. We rode on the teacups at the same time as Alice and the Queen of Hearts (she had a tough time fitting into her cup with that huge costume) and we were on the carousel at the same time as one of Cinderella's mice. Both times, we were at the right place at the right time.

Yeah, two of our kids rode the teacups with the Mad Hatter.

Of course, that was the ONE time that we were out of film...

It's just coincidence. Once, around 11:50 at night when I was riding Autopia, I look behind me and I saw both Minnie and Mickey riding in separate cars! (Needless to say, it caused quite a traffic jam!) Minnie drove up right next to me and we shook hands.

Easiest one to get is going on the canoes with pioneer goofy. If you're not a little kid in the right place right time, pretty much forget about anything else heh.

I've sure seen a lot of old and recent pictures with characters on Autopia - Captain Hook, Peter Pan, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Frank Sinatra...

A couple of months ago, Vic and I rode the carousel with Gepetto. He rode the horse right next to ours. It was particularly amusing to watch him get onto his horse. (Maybe he hadn't done this before.) His character shoes were much to large to fit into the stirrups! He finally just kind of crawled up onto his mount!
"Yesterday, a man walked up to me and said, 'Isn't it a shame that Walt Disney couldn't be here to see this?' and I said, "He did see this, that's why it's here."

Characters on attractions is actually a "magical moment" that is authorized on certain attractions. Attraction volume is what hinders the facilitating of such special moments. For a character to ride an attraction with a guest; it requires approval from the character's manager, the attractions manager and on occasion the theme park stage manager. It really is a be at the right place at the right time event. No amount of begging or pleading makes it happen.

sounds like a lot of red tape but I don't blame them those costumes look expensive anyways. But i remember standing in line for Splash and down the drop came Goofy and Donald...required a double take but the family riding with them seemed to be having the best day of their lives sounds like a once in a lifetime photo
