Re: Disneyland B-day Weekend Photo Trip Report

    Story on the tires:

We got a "Hand me down car". It's a 1996 Ford T-bird and when we got it in February it only had about 40,000 miles on it.

It was originally Kristi's Grandparents car then it was passed on to her parents about 5 years ago. Then, as I said we got the car in Feb. The car is practically brand new. You know, old people don't drive and the cars just sit in their garages.

Well when we got the car of course I took it in for service, which it didn't really need. The engine, Air, power EVERYTHING was fine. One thing that did NOT get checked were the tires.

So Saturday on our way down we were driving by Kristi's work (good thing it wasn't Compton or something) and we had the blowout. Our intention was to just get the 1 tire and be on our way. But the tire guys showed me the rest of the tires and they were cracking and the same thing was probably going to happen to all of them. So that's why we got all 4.

Basically the tires had NEVER been changed and were 10 years old.

It looks like you all had such a fun trip and I will have to remember priceline when I am looking to book hotel rooms on my next trip. Was booking them harder than if you were to to just book them regularly?

We have used Priceline for Disneyland hotels pretty much exclusively for the past 3 or 4 years. For the most part (I'd say 8 out of 10 times) we simply put 3+ star hotel and $50 a night. We usually get the Hyatt on Harbor but we have also gotten the DoubleTree (the new one and the one next to the block), the Mariott Suites and the Anaheim Hilton.

Granted most of the hotels are not within walking distance of the parks, but we have parking with our AP's and most of the hotels do have shuttles.

Gregg - always great to see a fellow Ventura County resident having fun at the Park! Hope to see you and the family soon. Great pics, of course!

I had the same thing happen with a car I bought several years ago. Buy the car, no problem, and then whammo! blowout. Glad you got pulled over safely and had a good spare!

Great pics! Makes me happy since I couldn't be there.
