Yet another Disneyland 51st Birthday Trip report--with pictures

    Prologue:

Jimmie and I were among the many visiting Disneyland for its 51st birthday, and it was a big "event" for us, since the last Disneyland birthday we attended was the 25th. Actually, the 51st was just a bonus for us, because the primary reason we were in attendance was the Saturday party at Wolfy's house. We were there to meet and get to know some of the people we'll be spending time with at WDW in October.

After a seven hour drive from Stockton, we checked into Hojo's, lunched at Mimi's and rested until party time. When we arrived, the party was in full swing, and I was pressed into service cutting the watermelons that we brought. (But not before we both received warm hugs Fishbulb and Dusty.)

The events of the party have been reported elsewhere, so I'll just mention that Jimmie and I sat near Dusty, Fishbulb, Disneyphile, and Frodo Potter, so those were the people we interacted with the most. I only took a couple of pix at the party; both were of Dusty and Fishbulb modeling the prizes they won:

The party broke up around seven, and we went back to our room to rest up for the next day in Disneyland. I went down to the pool to watch the fireworks, but they didn't happen--probably because of the wind.

(I'm going to break this in several posts, because of the apparent instability of MiceChat lately, and also I think it's better to post in "chapters."

Re: Yet another Disneyland Birthday Trip report

    Chapter One:

Sunday morning we were up bright and early and headed toward the main gate before opening. Here are some of the things we saw:

    Harbor Blvd at 7:30 am

    Crossing the street

Never hurts to pause and look at the roses

Looks like we're not the only early risers

Good thing we don't need any information

I can't believe people still buy tickets when they arrive

Our brick seems to be ok

Got in line at our favorite gate (#15) and checked the time. Looks like we'll have to wait about 20 minutes.

Once inside, we were greeted by the band

    Doesn't look too crowded yet

    Definitely room to breathe

We hung a left, finding a short wait for Indy, so we went in.

Got that done, let's head for Pirates. Not many in line here, despite what it looks like.

Shouldn't be too crowded on Haunted Mansion. Even took a pic or two on the way there.

Time to eat. Stopped at Riverbelle for breakfast. Both lines were open and the east side seemed shorter and faster. Watched the MT go by as we ate.

Then we headed in the direction of Big Thunder. Rode in the very back and performed a flawless "goat trick."

    Still not very crowded

So we got in line for the Matterhorn

Followed by "it's a small world"

And Roger Rabbit (the sign said "5 mins" when we went in.)

We still had some more time before the noon meet, so we found both Space and Star Tours advertising a 25 minute wait. We chose Star Tours (sorry, no picture). Then we headed for the hub to see who would be at the noon meet. But I'll save that for Chapter Two.

    great report, more please.
Question for you and anyone else that has stayed at the HoJo's. How far of a walk is it to the front gate from the HoJo. We will be taking our little one who still naps in the afternoon so we could end up going back and forth 8 times in one day.

Re: Yet another Disneyland Birthday Trip report

    Chapter Two:

OK, where were we? Just about to go to Sunday's MiceChat meet. Anyway, there were a LOT of MiceChatters there, and it's pretty hard to remember everyone's name when you're an infrequent visitor. That being said, I DID remember these two clowns who kept us entertained at Saturday's party. Do they really need introduction? I think not.

Most of my shots are candid, but this wasn't one of them. O'nut on the right and and an adorable lady on the right whose name escapes me now (Judimouse?):

Here are a couple more random shots. In the second one, I'm wondering who or what everyone in the second shot is looking at:

And I managed to slip my camera to Fishbulb and insinuate myself into this group shot. I'm in the front row on the left, kneeling:

Of course, lots of other photos were taken at the meet, but not by my camera. After a while most of us trotted over to the Plaza Inn for lunch. Jimmie and I sat at a separate table close to the others. She decided she wanted to shop a little and head back to our room, and I stayed with the group. When Fishbulb later found out she had bailed, he was not happy about it.

We headed for the POTC. I have no pictures, but I'm sure most of you heard the story of the stuck boat. I wasn't in that boat. I was in the other boat with O'nut, Grumpy, et al, and we sat in the cave near the treasure room for about 30 minutes.

After that adventure we headed for the Jungle Cruise, and we filled the golden boat with MiceChatters:

I sat across from these folks:

I'm sure you've seen these sights before:

including a rare shot of the world famous back side of water:

After we survived that cruise, we headed for the haunted mansion ("It's high capacity and air conditioned.") No pix here. After that ride, the group started to break up, so I headed over to FL and met TicToc. He had just finished riding the Matterhorn. We picked up some fast passes for Space, watched a bit of the parade, and then we just sat at Coke Corner and visited. It turns out we have a number of mutual friends in the cycling world. Then we rode Indy together (I saw "Bones"!). We agreed to meet later that evening, and I headed back to our room.

OK, time to rest up those tired fingers for chapter three.
