Re: Birthday Perks at DLR?

I took my wife to both Disneyland and DCA on her birthday. We stopped off at City Hall to get her a sticker (a 20 minute wait) and then proceeded to get exactly TWO happy birthday wishes and nothing else the entire day. She was most disappointed by the Tortilla Factory where we got the same sample everyone else was getting.

To be fair, after I chased our waiter down, the Blue Bayou provided her with a complimentary chocolate moose with a candle in it. Naturally, by the time they brought it out our 8 month old had starting pitching a fit and my wife had left the restaurant. I appreciated the attempt though.

Sad to say, that's one of the only times Disneyland has let me down.

On the bright side, the day before we ran into Maynard on Main Street. After my wife mentioned to him that he was a celebrity online (which he bashfully waved off) he then proceeded to give us a private show of some commercials he had recently recorded. It was great fun! (And he did WITHOUT knowing the next day was her birthday.

Re: Birthday Perks at DLR?

You could bring her to the MiceChat meet and we'll all sing Happy Birthday to her

Re: Birthday Perks at DLR?

I had a birthday sticker for my birthday last week...
I got many birthday wishes and was even sung too on Main Street.
I got Ice Cream with a candle at the Blue Bayou.
All around, just those few things made me feel very special!

If you're visiting an attraction like Dumbo, the Mad Tea Party or anything else with a spiel and microphone, you can subtly whisper the CM and they'll let everyone know. It could just be a simple "Happy birthday ____" or something a lot more entertaining and involved depending on who it is.

Very fun when it comes as a complete surprise to someone.

Wow, they gave you a whole restaurant?! How'd you get it home?

Re: Birthday Perks at DLR?

I was disappointed when I went on my birthday too. I got my sticker, and I even went to the birthday thing with pat-e-cake, not knowing it was Soooooo made for kids. I don't think one CM said happy birthday to me all day. Granted, I am an adult and I guess I shouldn't trip, but I thought at least a few would say it. Maybe I got one on Indy, only cause I said "Hey it's my birthday, can I sit in the drivers seat?"

Re: Birthday Perks at DLR?

Glad you guys had a better experience with the Blue Bayou for birthdays than I did! All we got there for my husband's birthday was the worst table in the place by the bus tubs and the lobby, rushed out of there as fast as possible, and they gave him a Mickey Mouse head jello for dessert... Oh man, and then that night we waited so long right in front of the castle for the fireworks and they got canceled. I felt terrible about it all and I'm def going to make it up to him for his next birthday!

Haha, and for my birthday they told me they weren't making flour tortillas so it was corn tortillas or nothing...which I hate. But my friends were happy to have them and enjoyed them so it was fine. Ah well, we enjoyed spending time together so that was the main thing.

I have a birthday page posted that you might find useful. The only information out of date is that they no longer sell most of the merchandise that used to be at the kiosk in front of Plaza Inn.

I got the bucket once. If you look at the picture of the sorcere bucket, you get that plush mickey key chain, a pin, stickers and a cake for 20 bucks. I think that was totally worth it.

This is awesome, thank you soooo much! My girlfriend and I will be driving down from Sacramento the night of her 23rd birthday in October, and will be spending a long weekend at DLR. I was looking into ways on how to make her first trip to the Mouse in almost NINE years extra special, and you helped me out a TON with the info above.

Thanks again, you guys are gonna make me look like a well planned pro on this trip. [smilie=8,15,21]

Keep all the great info coming!

It does not have to be your actual birthday. You get the sticker in City Hall or at the resort hotel (if you are staying there- you can get a birthday button). While at city hall, you can get a special birthday call from Goofy too. Not sure if she'd like that but I surprised my DD with it and she was thrilled.

Re: Birthday Perks at DLR?

Wow, I'm surprised at all of the bad experiences people have had. We went down for DD's birthday last January and had an absolutely wonderful experience. Don't know if it was because it was off season so it wasn't as crowded, but DD wore her birthday button for three days (one of the days was her actual birthday). Everyone said happy birthday and she was thrilled. Every character meal we went to gave her a free desert with a candle and a happy birthday song sung by the characters. She got the free tortilla pack, got to ride in the cone of the monorail and pilot the Mark Twain. I can't tell you how many CM's made her birthday special for her, taking time to stop and talk to her, find out about her, etc. That was the best part of all of it. She really felt special.

We stayed at the DL hotel (our only time) and they delivered balloons and a signed character picture to our room. I had to request this. They also have gift baskets for purchase but I thought they were pretty expensive. Really, we had a great time. It's a birthday she will never forget. Maybe we were just lucky.

Re: Birthday Perks at DLR?

I got the balloons and signed character picture when I stayed at the GCH last year. My DH just mentioned to the concierge that it was my b-day and when we returned to the room later in the day, the balloons and picture were waiting for me. Very cool.

How old is your daughter? That might be the difference, I think most of the people who had negative experiences were adults. I am sure most CMs make a bigger fuss over kids and who can blame them really. But I do hope if I do this for my future Sister-In-Law that at least a few people will be kind to her...even if she is 26! Especially since she has never been to DL and this is a surprise.

Re: Birthday Perks at DLR?

The last time we were there w/ my daughter around her birthday (I think she was
7), she really did have a wonderful time w/ all the CMs wishing her "happy
birthday, Princess!" (since she also wore her Princess hat).

Got the free dessert w/ candle at Blue Bayou, got to ride in the front
of the monorail, etc. She really had a wonderful day.

This was July and I remember it being pretty crowded.
