Does Disney Ever Sell It's Retired AAs?

So a friend of mine who's a CM at TDR told me something interesting. I'm not sure if I believe it could be he's just pulling my leg so I thought I'd ask here and see if anyone else has heard this story.

Supposedly many of the AAs from CBJ are just there, sitting around "backstage" and supposedly Disney is thinking about or has considered putting them up for auction on eBay.
Anyone else heard anything like this?

I'd kill to have Buff, Max or Mel (or all three of them, though at least one set is still in the Pooh ride) not to mention Henry and Sammy...or the Sun Bonnets. I guess Big Al would be out of the question anymore, since he was remade into Oogie Boogie. But what about the rest? Are they really just sitting around taking up space, unloved, backstage.

Has Disney ever done anything like that before?
Sold AAs or actual pieces of the park?

I remember seeing something like this before on ebay, but they'll sell only the shell, no working parts.

Yeah, your avitar (very cool BTW) is a love/hate thingfor me.

It's good to see he hasn't been destroyed or turned into something else (who knows ... maybe his innards have been <winces>.) But he looks SO out of place not sitting on his corner of the bandstand.

They also auctioned off a lot of the Food Rocks AA's from Epcot (via Mouse Surplus). They had their complete skins, and some mechanics. If what was there worked or not is another story, everything was sold as is and recommended to be displayed static.
