Well some of you may know that the Black Pearl is now in port at Berth 46 San Pedro California. We took a trip to go see the ship and was surprised at how many people did not know what the ship was and why it was in port.
Include is a viewing map for your best chances to see the Pearl!
Map of San Pedro Harbor. 1 is the Black Pearl!
Site 1 annotated by "2" is right at the front gates of the San Pedro Boat Yard company. It is private property with a locked gate and security shack. We talked to the security guard to see if we could go see the ship but as assumed the answer was NO! Great view of the rigging, yardarms, and masts....hull is obstructed by buildings.
Site 2 annotated by "3" provides great viewing of the stern of the Pearl. Slightly obstructed by rigging from sailboats in Marina Hotel harbor. We tried to get onto the docks but no one was around to let us in the locked gates. Owners and guests ONLY! If you move your way around the outside of the harbor you may get shots like this:
With a high power 20X zoom and tripod on a Panasonic Lumix:
Site 3 annotated by "4" is at the Cabrillo Marina boat launch. This gives you an excellent view of the Pearl from a starboard quarter perspective. Watch out for launches and fish guts!
Finally Site 4 annotated by "5" provides some of the best viewing and photography. Be sure to use a zoom on your camera. This area provides you with a starboard midships perspective.
And finally a photograph using a 20x zoom and than stitching the images together. This shot was taken at the end of the jetty. Park your car in the lot and walk out half way down the jetty.
Well happy hunting and be sure not to get in trouble when at the locked gates!!!!
Rumor has it that the Flying Dutchman may be arriving as well. Supposedly some final sea battle scenes are to filmed off the coast of Palos Verdes, CA. Locals...please keep your eyes open and let us know what you see. I sure do wish they would have an Open House for us infatuated POTC fans!
