This is an issue I've been conversing with CrazyLegs and a few others about in the past week and I'd really like to know what everyone else thinks about addressing the issue or if it's even an issue at all. To me it seems plaids feel they have the right to get angry and rude at any non-VIP guest if they so much as feel the urge. First of all, to those who don't know, let me explain. When there's a VIP guest in the park (celebrity of any type), DLR asigns an escort (commonly referred to as plaid) to accompany them. In the past week I've already experienced 2 different occasions where I myself felt they were needlessly rude, by 2 different Plaids.
The first incident was last sunday (7/23/06). I was with Al and CrazyLegs. Al went off to get some goodies while CrazyLegs and I tried to find a table at Candy Corner. We went to the back, which is where most of the tables are and I noticed a Plaid leaning against the wall, seemingly bored, so I figured she was on break or something. CrazyLegs and I were just standing around, looking to see if we'd spot someone leaving a table. After about a minute, the plaid walks over to us and very rudely says "Excuse me, he's not doing photos today." I looked over to CrazyLegs and we exchanged one big 'WTF?' look. I looked back at her and replied "What are you talking about?". She said something incoherent like "Oh... er... huh...", changed her gaze between both of us a few times and then just went back to leaning against the wall. Now then this did actually peak our curiosity, but we couldn't figure out who this mysterious person was. Maybe we just didn't recognize them, but had she not said anything, we would have remained oblivious. We just walked away and found a table out by Coke Corner where we waited for Al to return with yummy Pecan Brittle. I do realize I had my camera out, as I usually do, but it was very obviously off with the lens closed and in no way did I look like I was about to take a picture.
The second incident occured yesterday. As we were seated in the Hyperion Theatre waiting for the Aladdin show to start. The PA system did their usual "For the safety of the performers, no flash photography please." announcement. Anyway, I had my camera out (as I took plenty of non-flash pictures), as did an older gentleman sitting a few seats to my side. Suddenly I hear this very rude yell (as if she were about to rip someones head off) "Hey! Sir! You can't take flash pictures in here!". I look back, considering this did make me jump a bit and was suprised to see it was a plaid who said this considering I didn't know any CM was allowed to speak in that tone of voice unless someone were commiting a MAJOR felony or someones life were in danger. The poor old man just looked back and said "I didn't take a flash picture. The flash isn't even on." and that was thankfully the end of that. Although an interesting side-note, after this plaid brought such attention to herself, we looked back as the theatre was being emptied and CrazyLegs happened to notice it was Larry King that this plaid was escorting.
Feel free to relate any stories you might have. I really want to know everyone elses experiences and/or opinions on the matter.
