Question Cell coverage in the Parks and Ride Queues?

I am not one to yell in my cell phone like it is a can on a string or chat endlessly about nothing. I do use AIM and SMS on my phone and I am curious what the coverage is like at the Parks (DLR/DCA) and Queues like Indiana Jones, Splash Mountain and Space Mountain.

    Sooo . . . .

    What is your experience?

    Provider?
Cell Phone (if you know it off hand)?

I use Cingular and have a Sony Ericsson z520a.

    Thanks in advance!

I have a Treo 650 (although getting a 700 soon), and the only places I've had trouble is when reaching the end of the Indy and Space Mountain queues. Everywhere else I've been fine. I've even talked on the phone while riding Matterhorn and Pirates of The Caribbean. I know, I'm a geek.

Please don't. Just please don't. Please just go home before you find any need to use your phone in the park. Why did you go to Disneyland? To txt? OMG IM ON SPC MTN . I was on Monsters Inc and a guy was talking on the phone the in the car infront of me - ruined the whole thing. You use the phone other than off the beaten path for a legitimate reason and you suck are being extremely disrespectful to the people that go to Disneyland to escape the outside world and dive into another world of fantasy, dreams, hopes and magic.

I have Verizon and have an LG (not sure what model). I don't have service in the Indy queue or in parts of the Splash Mtn. queue and/or ride. Other than that, I'm usually fine. Of course, I've never tried to talk on my phone while on Space Mountain......so, who knows?!

I tend to lose coverage in many areas. Cingular with a 3300 phone from Nokia.

I agree. However, I usually only use my cell phone to talk to my parents while they are in other parts of DL. For instance, I always get FPs while my parents wait in another location. So, having a phone makes it soooo much easier to find people. Also, I always text myself my locker code. I'm much more likely to lose that little piece of paper than to lose my cell!!! I also take pics/video of DL to remind me of the happy days!!! Whenever I'm sad, I just whip out my 15 sec video of Remember...Dreams Come True!!!!

So, if you think about it in this way, a cell phone is a necessary DL item.

Re: Cell coverage in the Parks and Ride Queues?

Let me note that the only times I've actually talked on the phone while on a ride has been during the offseason, late at night when I was either alone or with friends who were amused at the fact that I was able to hold a conversation while on the ride.

It's kinda like playing Nintendo DS while on rides:

Re: Cell coverage in the Parks and Ride Queues?

I never use my phone while on a ride. But it IS handy to have when you are trying to meet people in the park, such as at a MC meet, or when you are playing super spy during a scavenger hunt. Also, many of us carry our phones so that we are never without a camera. (I especially like to take a photo of where I am parked for the day, so I can find my car again.)

However, I will say that one day I rode POTC in the dark with no sound, and while in the battle scene, my cell phone rang! Who knew it would work there? Normally, nobody would have even heard it ring, not even me. Imagine my surprise!

good thread! i was planning to bring mine for the same reason disneyprincess does...i do agree it is rude to distract from the ride but i think nowadays cell phones are a neccesity...gone r the days where u wait in front of the castle for ur lost group....my mom when she was little got lost on mark twain island and was missing for a while! lol now u can just call the lost member (unless its a tiny child...and in that case at least the parents can split up) and save ur mental health as well as time!

I don't know about my phone's (Morotola with Net10) reception because I never used it in the park (I never use it really). But my cousin was using hers a lot in the park (one of those types who is texting a lot) and she was getting decent reception, I know she got a call from home at the Toontown train station and the reception was fine and was using the internet in the GRR queue.

Antique LG VX2000 - the steam-powered one... Hey, if it ain't broke, don't exchange it for a new one - the chalkboard says the phone has made 7302 calls, with a total airtime of 302 Hours 12 Minutes. (Oops - brother just called - 7304, 302:16:16)

Service from Verizon Wireless, and I rarely notice the "No Signal" warning {beep beep beep beep} at Disneyland unless it's an enclosed steel building or inside an elevator. They get the signals into the nooks and crannies rather well.

In the effort of not intruding on others, I leave the phone set to 'first ring vibrate' and turn the ringer off totally at DL when I remember to - It's hard to find a lost phone in the house if it's set to 'vibrate only', that motor isn't loud on purpose...

Oh, and they get a good VZW Mobile Broadband signal, too. I have the good stereo mike, all I need is to pull the trigger on a good A/D Converter (M-Audio Firewire 410 is my first choice) and I can stream CD-quality audio out to the world from my laptop at Coke Corner...

Or I can be a True Loser and MiceChat from inside the park.

Verizon - Motorola Razr. I put it on vibrate, that way I can tell when the kids are calling. We use the phones to keep track of who is where. They usually work just about everywhere. In Indy near the boarding area I don't have service and in Space Mountain at the boarding area. Otherwise, I've never had a problem.

I get horrible reception in Tomorrowland, especially around the PeopleMover tracks.

It is somewhat of a MC tradition to let distand MC friends "ride" on rides with you via cell phone. I know it's been done a lot of times on Space.
