I said it was a "little" confusing at Splash, but you are closer to the truth. The three lines are in completely different sections of the attraction. A first timer should be able to easily find the Standby line but they will almost certainly get lost trying to find the other two lines.

So I decided to summarize the FastPass line situation here for each attraction in case anyone out there is going for a first trip and is really nervous about trying to find them.

Disneyland

Splash Mtn - three lines are not co-located and are the hardest of all to find

Space Mtn - three lines are all adjacent and very easy to find

Indiana Jones - the Standby and FastPass Return lines are adjacent - the FastPass Distribution line is about 30-40 feet to the left in its own covered area which is well marked

Big Thunder Mtn RR - The Standby line is right next to the FastPass Return line, but when the Standby line is long it extends out from there and the end of the line may not be right next to the Return line. The FastPass Distribution area is across the walkway about 15 feet away.

Buzz Lightyear - All three lines are adjacent and very easy to find

Roger Rabbit Car Toon Spin - The Standby and FastPass Return lines are adjacent, but when the Standby line gets long the end of the line can be some distance from the Return line. The FastPass Distribution line is to the left and out in front of the ride about 25 feet away

Autopia - The Standby line and Fast Return lines are adjacent. The FastPass Distribution area is to the right in its own area and kind of hard to find. It is something like 40-50 feet away.

DCA

Soarin' Over California - All three lines are pretty close together and easy to find.

Grizzly River Run - The Standby and FastPass Return lines are next to each other. The FastPass Distribution area is to the left in a separate area about 15-20 feet away.

California Screamin' - The Standby and FastPass Distribution lines are next to each other while the FastPass Return line is to the right about 15 feet

Tower of Terror - The Standby line is to the left and the FastPass Return line is close by to the right. The FastPass Distribution is in a separate area across the walkway about 40 feet away. This ride is probably the most confusing at DCA with regard to FastPass but it is not as bad as Splash Mtn

Mulholland Madness - The Standby and FastPass Return lines are adjacent while the FastPass Distribution area is out in front of the ride and to the right about 20-25 feet away.
