DGCH's grassy area and parking lot might do well for DCA expansion. Once a new multi-purpose area is built for special events and new parking structures.

New rumored Monorail station in PP. Probably above the Disney Tunnel of Love or in the CA Screamin's east circle/loop track.

sweeper's Cliffhouse restaurant might do well for my proposed San Fransico 2nd floor restuarant west of old Golden Dreams.

Not sure I mentioned this: Various juggling, fire-breathing, balancing, strong man, etc. acts that perform in that sort of outdoor stage area between Golden Dreams & Paradise Bay. Should probably do something for the performer's stage area to avoid burning themselves on the hot cement floor.

A new entertainment offering I'd like to do on the outdoor stage in HPB where Drawn to the Magic plays, is an interactive show. A Director/producer character is trying to shoot a scene. But his crew didn't show up, so he enlists the help of audience members (both young and old) to be boom operator, camera operator, clapper, actor, actress, stunt double (nothing extreme), Q-card guy, etc. Audience can shout out what scene they should do. Maybe at the end, they can have view the dailies and that's the end. REASON/PURPOSE- audience awareness of the basics of how a movie comes from an idea to the big screen.

If it were absolutely certain that the 3rd gate is dead, then I would put major focus on expansion of the Strawberry field property into a hotel and entertainment area. Themed hotels, miniature golf, POSSIBLY a water park for the resort.

Why does DCA have main lands, then sub-lands, then mini-lands?? Golden State should just be Grizzly Recreation Area. Condor Flats should be a land to itself (unless it becomes GRA). Pacific Wharf should be a land to itself. San Fransico Bay Area should be a land on to itself. I think they did this to make it seem like Golden State is a HUGE land, which I dislike and nobody really follows. The west end of PP could be San Fransico Bay Area or PP or a new land for itself that concentrates on marine life (Right now I'm thinking of Discovery Bay). I'm afraid to base it too much like an aquirum feel. In the end, DCA would have 8-9 (soon to be) fully fleshed out lands.

Well, if I was President (and still had some reasonalbe autonomous
decision-making authority), then I would:

* work on improving the labor situation. (This looks like the #1 problem at
present). Definitely pay more and make working at DLR more attractive.
* keep hands off from the Dreams promotion. (let underlings handle)
* keep tabs on "DCA+" efforts w/ WDI, but let John Lassetter and WDI drive
the concept stage. (DCA needs a concerted effort, not a hodge-podge solution).
* Put DVC *somewhere* near DL.
* Raise PAP/AP prices, etc that's been mentioned above.
* Yeah, hate to say this, but I'll raise prices of admission.
* Keep maintenance at current (50th) levels. Only cut if you're positive that
you can keep the quality up. i.e. replace a lot of lights w/ LEDs/halogen.

Finally, I'll keep walking the park and talking to people and telling TDA
staffers to do the same. I would even volunteer to do ride-ops!

1. Return all entertainment to it's original state.

The first thing I would do is make Walt Disney's old apartment above the fire station, my new apartment so I would always be at Disneyland. Then I would expand the park and make it huge and add more rides, restuarants, shops, and stuff like that. Plus I would give the Cast members a better working expeirence. Hey, who can beat that?? NON-PARK SPECIFIC
1. Redo CM contracts. Higher pay, better hours, better benefits. If the cast is happy, the show will be the best it can possibly be. Your show is only as good as those who have to act in it and if they are unhappy, your show is going to suck. This has to be priority #1.

2. Weekly park visits by myself. Spend enough time to visit each of the
lands and talk with CM's, park guests. Go on a few rides. Get a good
feel for the pulse of the park and the attitude of guests and CM's.

3. Set up and enforce regular maintenence schedules for both parks.
a. Annual repainting of all buildings (not all at the same time, rotate
through them.
b. When lightbulbs are installed, records kept so that at 80% of lifetime
they can be replaced. Nightly walkthroughs of park with all lights on
to find and replace blown bulbs.
c. Fully repairing damage rather than slapping a quick coat of paint over
things.

4. Have a talk with Bob Iger about getting some real decision making power.
As President, I should have the ability to take stock of my park, talk
with my departments and make decisions about the direction things
need to go. Granted, there needs to be approval a group that overseas
all the parks, but that group should NOT have the power to decide what
I do and don't do. They grant approval and keep the story/theme and
quality up to Disney standards. Jay's job, though not necessarily Jay
himself can stay, but the power and reach of that position need severe
trimming.

DISNEYLAND
1. Remove marketing kitsch from all over the parks. Disneyland is not a
giant billboard for other Disney ventures. (Pirates I see as an exception
as it is a ride in the park). This definitey includes the new Pricess
Boutique planned for the Fantasyland Theater. There needs to be a
show in that area. Create a new show or something. Nothing should
have to be payed for once you are in the park (speaking of attractions,
shows only, not food).

2. Smaller stores throughout the park should not carry the same things as
the Emporium does. The main product lines should be land-specific or
ride-specific merchandise with a few general Disney items. Not only will
this keep the story of the lands more cohesive, it will foster the
creation of new souveneir lines.

3. Tomorrowland needs a well defined theme. It should be along the lines of
a tomorrow that never happened. This allows for continuation of the
original theme and story of the land. It will tie it together much better if
entering Tomorrowland is like walking into a retro-future kind of land.
This story needs to be adhered to and followed just as in any other land
and nothing should be built or added to Tomorrow land that does not fit
that story. (as much as I like the Tomorrowland stage area and Elvis
etc, it really pulls you out of the story of Tomorrowland).

4. Tomorrowland needs movement within the land itself. The Astro Orbiter is
at the entrance to the land, but once you are inside there is nothing
moving around. The Observatron was designed to fill this kinetic role,
but has not been working a lot.
a. Something needs to go onto the PeopleMover track. Not necessarily
the People Movers again, but something that transports people, has
a high capacity, and fills the void with color and motion, sound even.
b. Astro Orbiter needs to be replaced on top of the PeopleMover loading
area. It simply bottlenecks the entrance to Tomorrowland. Something
else can be placed out front of the land to attract attention and
provide for additional motion. It should be a sculpture or something.
Revive the world clock maybe, but those rocks and stuff have to go
to open up the pathways into the land.
c. Innoventions has become an arcade for DDR, VMK and other video
games. There is very little that is innovative in there. It no longer is
what it claims to be. You have the little intro video about all these
cool new technologies and they occupy a tiny fraction of the space,
relegated to the outer ring when you enter. The vast interior is video
games. Either restore the attractions purpose or remove it and make
way for something new.

CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE
1. Story, Story, Story. The story needs to be strong, easily understood and
stuck to. The idea of the park is great, celebrate California. The
execution has been very poor. This needs to be changed. Anything new
going in should be story specific to the area it is going into.

2. Monsters Inc. is a huge problem. The ride budget was nowhere near
what it should have been for that attraction. It needs to be closed and
re-worked to be the ride it should be or removed, despite any expense
involved.

3. A nightly show during the same time as the Disneyland Fireworks. As it
stands, once the Electrical Parade is over, everyone leaves CA and
moves into DL. All that traffic coming into an already packed Main St.
creates lots of problems for everyone. Some kind of fireworks or
Fantasmic style show over the Paradise Pier lagoon would be best as it
would pull crowds away from the entrance area.

4. The Pacific Warf area either needs more restaurants or a ride/attraction
of some sort. As it is, that part of the park is a graveyard most days.
No one goes there. It is silent and feels like a ghost town, albeit one
with very yummy bread bowls.

5. Hollywood Pictures Back Lot needs street entertainment. More
characters walking around. The Muppets should be more prevalent in
that area. The Tower of Terror story needs to extend outward from the
building a little further. As it is there isn't much of a cross-disolve from
HPBL into that area... just a very abrubt, oh, you're here now.

I thought I would finally answer my own question...

I see two priorities for the new President.

1) HE HAS TO GET THE EMPLOYEE SHORTAGE FIXED! That has to be the first priority or their will be no one left to run the park! Personally, I feel that a pay increase is necessary, but I don't know if the DL President makes that decision or if the Central Committee does that in Orlando. But something has to be done and done quickly!

2) The second major problem I see is that there is no long term plan. It looks like management sees six months in advance and that is it. I really believe that in a creative enterprise as a theme park, you have to look much longer into the future. If one is constantly just thinking about what can be done to boost attendance for this next season, no true improvements on the park can be made.

3) DCA is at a critical point. It really needs a push to get it to move out of the "nobody is in the park" rut. It will not be solved by ONE more attraction. I think that as DL President I would push for a real comprehensive solution. Otherwise, there will be no third park. Disney execs will just use DCA has an excuse to never expand. That would be bad for Disneyland and for So California.

My first decision, and main priority, would be to insist that I be given the ability and power to make decisions and set priorities. Because as long as Jay Rasulo and his happy band of idiots are usurping initiative, creativity, and the bottom line, nothing good is going to happen.

If you don't have the power to effect real change, there's no point in trying to do anything.
