Sad A Sad Farewell To Several Disneyland Park Icons

As many of you know, last week said farewell to several musical groups at Disneyland. Swing Souffle, the Firehouse Quartet and the Main Street Mercantile Band were dismantled and select musicians were picked to make one Dixieland Interactive Band (after the marching band finishes in the morning).

Well, as of Sept. 4, 2006, we say goodbye to 3 more musical groups. The weekend of Sept. 4 sees the last musical performances of the Side Street Strutters, the Bayou Brass and the River Rascals. It is unknown at this time what will be planned for the NOS area. The only musicians being kept are the Royal Street Bachelors and Ernie. The Side Street Strutters have been playing jazz in NOS for over 20 years. The River Rascals have been playing their Cajun/Zydeco music for the past 7 years. Bayou Brass has been around for at least 5 years, but could be longer.

Wow ... sad. The Music is part of what's always made NOS seem so special to me.

It looks like the new president of Disneyland is cutting budgets left and right, as people on here speculated he would do. I hope the maintenance isn't the next thing he will cut out.

Re: A Sad Farewell To Several Disneyland Park Icons

With Disneyland's record attendance this past year, how smart is it to cut the sort of entertainment that keeps people in the crowds happy and calm?

I know that the 50th was expensive, but I hope that they don't plan on making up the difference in years to come by cutting what we have come to expect from Disney entertainment.

Any news yet on what they plan on replacing all the cut acts with???

Any idea what they plan on doing before fantasmic then? I'd loved having the band floating along the river playing and having recorded music playing just doesn't seem the same. They'd better not be using something like wdw's pop music preshow, that'd be a horrible mood killer.

when your entertainment costs go up with new contracts then entertainment gets cut plus they are adding things at dca and the money has to come from somewhere. this was going on before the new guy came in. I think it was another reason mat left. the president of DLR has very little control over how money is spent these days. blame it on Jay rasulo and his group. pretty soon the only entertainment will be the characters.

Is there going to be a new villains meet-n-greet now, starring Jay Rasulo?

Nobody likes this guy. Even the Disney apologists don't like this guy, which is a giant shocker for me (they even defended Paul Pressler).

No entertainment in my favorite part of Disneyland makes me incredibly sad.

What a great idea!!!!!!!! It makes me sad that this is a great idea.

I feel awful for the performers and what this will do to the atmosphere in the park.

I loved the side street strutters! They were so much fun to interact with! So, what exactly are Disney's operating costs? I realize there are a lot of people, but we pay a lot to get in the park and then spend a fortune once we're in the park - where does it all go?

Will trade husband for Disneyland and DCA Pins!

There is a report from Florida that Disney is going to raise its theme park prices this week, so cut entertainment and raise prices, seems logical to me.

The jazz has always been good, but on my recent trip there was a group of guys with instruments in NOS that were only making what I could describe as noise, I didn't feel like it was music at all. Can't say I'd miss that.
