That's wonderful (: It ended in 1994? Meaning I probably rode it in 1993. And the submarines too. Yay.

The skyway was pretty fun. My mom hated it, too high up for her.

I don't like the Santa Cruz one or the one they put in Cal Expo during the State Fair for one reason, your feet dangle. I hate that feeling and it makes me really nervous.

The video was really neat, I loved seeing the old Tomorrowland, the subs, the PM, the Rocket Jets in their rightful place. Plus seeing Harold through that hole.

Wonderful memories...thanks! Wolfette was in awe to see how things used to look...she kept pointing out the Peoplemover, so sad she'll never see DL that way again!
Mom, remember, it's not what a person is like on the outside that counts,
it's what they are like in their HEART!

Yes it ended in 1994, it was closed November 9, 1994.

I'm not entirely sure why, but the Disney World Skyway closed the same day 5 years later.

Gave me goosebumps! I loved the Skyway and miss it so much! And I miss the subs too since it gave a great view. Thank you for the post!

Glad to have helped to recreate some fond memories with this thread. The Skyway lives on in our minds and hearts. Let's hope that the ride finds it's way back some day, in one form or another. The motion and excitement that it created is sorely missed.

Imagine if the Skyway, PeopleMover, and the Subs were all back. That would take away so much of the crowding by getting people on actual rides instead of in the walkways. The park would be spread out again and people could take the Skway and the walkway to get back and forth.

A bunch of designer friends and current and former Imagineers of ours, and I, go to Cedar Point once a year...religiously...gosh, for over 20 years now at least. One of them watches the mail like a hawk and within 2 days of Cedar Point announcing the current season's rates and specials...we have to have all our rooms and airfares booked or he goes into anxiety melt-down! And if he's reading this...he knows we always rib him about just that.

As you say, it's not Disneyland by any means. It's simply different. But one thing for sure: This amusement park on the Great Lake's "Roller Coast"...is just pure fun, fun, fun!

And I love the history of the place and especially staying at the old Hotel Breakers. It's not quite the Hotel Del Coronado, and it could use some updating here and there. But it's a great old-style white clapboard hotel whose walls I bet have seen few things over the last 100 years!
Riding the skyway again was really really fun! Especially since it was 2006 and I was riding! Although watching the teenager riff raff making ruckus from high up while I was walking down the midway did make me remember one big reason for Disney not wanting to deal with the Skyway anymore (besides for the financial savings) the riff raff loved to spit from high above, I clearly remember that in Dland, but I did block it out of memory Oh well.

At least skyway fans know they have a couple places left in the US to ride a Skyway and relive the memories

Very good point, cal. It would be a marvelous dream come true to have outdoor track and transportation rides such as Skyway, the PeopleMover, the Subs and the Monorails all operating together as one cohesive unit of motion again,

    Thank you!

I honestly believe that was a huge benefit of Disneyland back in the days.
The rides all worked, the park was balanced, it was maintained and "fresh".
