Watching the recent post of the Skyway video and I noticed that the holes that used to go through Mattahorn are gone! Did they patch them up? Did that alter the track in anyway?

Filled in, didn't alter the track or anything. When on the ride, there's one big cavern that's easily identifiable as "That Skyway Room."
They patched them up several years ago. They did not alter the track to do this. I am sure somebody on the board will be able to give you the year that it happened.
The skyway was officially closed in 1994, so I'm assuming the holes must have been filled in around then.
Apparently, Pressler wanted the openings filled in...for whatever the reason might be. Hopefully, Disney will create new ones and reopen a Skyway type ride again someday.

Terribly unlikely. Thank you, Americans With Disabalities Act!Originally Posted by Ride Warrior
That's another reason where I think a Tomorrowland/Toontown Peoplemover would be more useful. Easier to load people into.
That would be great I miss the Skyway!Originally Posted by Ride Warrior

I said "Skyway type of ride". The PeopleMover traveling thru the Matterhorn and over both Tomorrowland and Fantasyland would work for me. Although, I think today's advanced technology coupled with inginuity would more than meet the challenge of making a skyway accessable and safe for the disabled.Originally Posted by MickeyMania

I don't really remember exactly when it was filled in, but my guess is mid 90s.
I want to say 95. But according to Wikipedia, it was right after it closed in '94.
BTW. a strange (and often overlooked) point is that the Skyway actually predates the Matterhorn.
In what part of the ride (matterhorn) can you see the old Sky Way caverns?
I'm imagineering a new signature for your future enjoyment!
