    Cool Park tips

    Hey everyone,
    We are going to Disneyland next month. Are there any tips you can share, things we should see, things we should avoid. Best places to eat in the park, and outside of the park.
    Thank you

    Wow, that's a big subject. How long do you have in Disneyland? Are you going to see California adventure as well?

    I think things you should see, personally, depend on what's new since the last time you visited, or are special to you for memory's sake, but for me, that includes all of the following:

    1. The "Remember..." fireworks show;
    2. The "Parade of Dreams";
    3. The Aladdin show production at DCA;
    4. The following rides:
    (a) Pirates,
    (b) Indiana Jones,
    (c) Space Mountain,
    (d) Splash Mountain,
    (e) Haunted Mansion,
    (f) Jungle Cruise,
    (g) Big Thunder Mountain Railroad,
    (h) California Screamin',
    (i) Tower of Terror,
    (j) The Animation Building,
    (k) Soarin' over California,
    (l) Grizzly River Rapids, and
    (m) It's Tough to Be a Bug.

    Things to avoid is more controversial. I can't speak for you, or everyone, but the following would be last on my personal list (and again, this is highly subjective):
    1. Innoventions;
    2. Autopia;
    3. Honey, I shrunk the Audience;
    4. Any of the rides in the Paradise Pier section of DCA, except for California Screamin' and the Sun Wheel.

    I say "put to the bottom", because you may want to check them out anyway, after you've seen everything else on your list.

    Best places to eat are usually outside of the park. Depending on when you go, you might be able to take the monorail to Downtown Disney, which has better food options, including the following:

    1. The Napa Rose;
    2. Catal;
    3. ESPN Zone;
    4. Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen;
    5. House of Blues; and
    6. Napoli/La Brea Bakery/Storyteller's/Rainforest Cafe.

    Inside the park, in Disneyland, I have the following favorites:
    1. Cafe Orleans;
    2. Redd Rocketts' Pizza Port;
    3. Plaza Inn;
    4. Carnation Cafe;
    5. Blue Bayou; and
    6. Riverbelle Terrace.

    In California Adventure, consider the following as "good":
    1. The Vineyard Room;
    2. The Wine Country Trattoria;
    3. The Boudin Bakery Cafe (?); and
    4. The Cove Bar.

    Whitewater snacks, off of DCA, is also popular, and the Storyteller's Cafe, Napa Rose, and all of Downtown Disney is also very close to DCA as well.

    Have a great time on your vacation!

    Everyone differs on what they like in the park, but we really enjoy: Blue Bayou.Plaza Inn, Redd Rockets Pizza Port, Bengal BBQ, Golden Horseshoe. Outside the park we like most of the places in Downtown Disney. Denny's on South Harbor,Millies Country Kitchen South Harbor, Tony Romas South Harbor. We stay away from-IHOP South harbor dirty place. Ariels Grotto- terrible service, expensive, and bad food!

    Re: Park tips

    Again, not knowing your background (have you ever been there before, and when), It's hard to pin anything down.
    However... I think that the best experiences are those that are either tightly themed to their area of the park, or have a lot of historical signifigance.
    That being said, I would recommend in no particular order...

    Rides & other attractions in Disneyland:
    - Pirates & the Haunted Mansion, no question.
    - The Tiki Room & the Disneyland Railroad, for their history.
    - Indiana Jones
    - The Mark Twain
    - "Remember..." fireworks show. Best...Fireworks...Ever! Seriously, if I had to pick between seeing Remember or Fantasmic, I would pick Remember without hesitation.
    - The Carousel. Sure, you've been on a carousel before, but not one as nice as this, surrounded by the castle.
    - Stroll up & down Main Street, listen to the Dapper Dans, stop at the Silhuette Shop, and sit and listen for a while to whoever is playing piano that evening at Coke Corner. Actually, this should be at the top of the list.

    Dining in Disneyland:
    - Breakfast at the Riverbelle Terrace with an outside table facing the Rivers of America, lunch at the Blue Bayou with a table by the waters edge, and dinner at the Plaza Cafe with a table next to the windows facing Main Street. Sorry, no substitutions. Do this you must.

    California Adventure:
    - Soaring over California, first and foremost.
    - Grizzle Rapids, if it's warm enough to be getting wet.
    - Tower of Terror & the roller coaster, if there's time.

    Dining in California Adventure:
    I'll leave this category to those that have tried more of the selections here than I have; nothing in this park really stands out for me.

    Thank you
    I would say:

    1) Buy water misters before you enter the park (Buy them from places like Walgreens, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc. where they are very cheap compared to the ones at DL)

    2) Buy your tickets in advance so you can just get up to the gates and go through the turnstiles rather than wait in a long line to buy tickets at the booth.

    3) Dress lightly, bring lots of water, and wear sunscreen

    4) Get there as early as possible.

    5) Hit rides like Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Matterhorn first since they can not take in many riders per hour and their lines can get long because of it. Plus they are very popular.

    6) Remember that even though the lines for pirates & Mansion may appear long at times, the lines move fast since they can take in MANY riders per hour.

    7) I hear many great reviews about a resturant in the Grand Californian Hotel called "WhiteWater Snacks"

    8) Get fastpasses for the water rides if you have to.

    9) Go to DCA when you want to escape the Disneyland crowds.

    BEST TIME TO RIDE THE ATTRACTIONS WITH SHORT LINES ARE RIGHT WHEN THE PARK OPENS, DURING ALL FIREWORK SHOWS, ALL PARADES, & FANTASMIC. You do not want to be on Main Street when any of those events are happening though because it can get really crowded.

    Areas around the Disney Gallery can get pretty crowded during Fantasmic too.

    Rides you should experience:
    In Disneyland:

    Haunted Mansion
    Pirates of the Caribbean
    Space Mountain
    Splash Mountain
    Thunder Mountain
    Indy
    Jungle Cruise
    Star Tours

    For shopping: Disney Gallery (Above Pirates of the Caribbean)

    In California Adventure:

    Soarin
    Screamin
    MuppetVision3D
    Tower of Terror
    The Animation Building
    Monsters Inc.
    Grizzly River Rapids
    It's Tough to be a Bug

    Frogberto,
    Thank you for the info, we are going to be there for 7 days. We have been there before but not for a year. I am a little bummed that Haunted Mansion will be closed, but look forward to seeing the new pirates.

    6pack, I'm excited for you! With 7 days, you should have enough time to see everything, and then decide what you like enough to ride twice (or even more) times!

    Have fun --

    This is a small tip, but you might find it worthwhile...The bakery in Critter Country is FAR superior to the one on Main Street. If you find yourselves in the wilds of Critter Country give them a try. Chocolate chip cookies and the triple chocolate brownies especially.
    You are going to have SO MUCH FUN!

    Re: Park tips

    Coffee in Disneyland tends to (how do I say it politely) sucks.
    We had great coffee and beignet's at Ralph Brennans one morning on the way into the park. It got our vote for best coffee at the resort.

    Good thing he is gonna be there for 7 days he can see both. Grr I would definitely pick Fantasmic over the fireworks. But that's just me. I never imagined anyone would actually perfer Remember.
