Disney always rip of the style but never the design; look at haunted mansion and main street station

They use the real thing for inspirations, certain, but they always adapt and make it their own unique design.

I certainly see the resemblance. Perhaps elements from both courthouses were used in the design of DL's City Hall. The tower, windows and roofline were definitely inspired by the Michigan design.

    Re: City Hall

I'd say that he drew inspiration from a number of older courthouses and city halls from around the country. All the story says is that his inspiration for Main St came from Ft. Collins, CO. That is a general statement and not meant to apply to any one single building, but to the area as a whole. I think that city hall has elements of Ft. Collins and Bay City in it and probably of other bulidings as well. Excellent thread and analysis.

I do like that he took elements from both that were unique and put them together into an even more unique building. The scaling down of the building makes it feel more warm and inviting than a typical city hall would be. Most would be larger buildings meant to be imposing.

Aside from a different color scheme, and some new handrails on the front steps, the building is virtually the same as it was on opening day.

Body by Fort Collins, Hair by Bay City.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...
