I would love to see a well-made biography of Uncle Walt. Somehow, though, I'm under the impression that either he or the family has expressed a wish that this not be done.
"Yesterday, a man walked up to me and said, 'Isn't it a shame that Walt Disney couldn't be here to see this?' and I said, "He did see this, that's why it's here."

I certainly don't think it's a project the Disney company should do (too biased) and I'm sure they would fight anyone else trying to get it done.

So yes, I think it's well overdue.

I would love to see a well done thorough documentary. However, if "Hollowood" got ahold of Walt's biograpghy, it could take some nasty plot twists. Could you imagine if Oliver Stone is in charge! He would dig up/invent every/any anti-Disney fact/fiction and place them front and center... "While he built an amusment park that some call America at it's worst, one cannot overlook the shortcomings of the man behind the mouse."

Don't we already have a couple Walt Disney biographies out there?
A great made-for-TV-and-now-on-DVD biography: Walt: The Man Behind the Myth, and the theme park attraction that debuted at Disney-MGM Studios, but failed at DCA: Walt Disney: One Man's Dream

    Editorial Reviews
    Amazon.com
Dick Van Dyke (Mary Poppins) narrates this made-for-TV special, which focuses on the high points in Walt Disney's life and career. Over 70 friends, relatives, and associates were interviewed. Critics, however, weren't given much of a chance to have their say, which prevents Walt from presenting a fully rounded picture. Fortunately, this two-hour story of the great man's rise--and rise--makes for compelling viewing anyway. It doesn't merely cover his work, but personal life, as well. Milestones, such as his marriage, are brought to life using footage from a copious home movie collection. Furthermore, a few Disney animators do mention some of the great man's more negative traits, such as his legendary toughness, but such criticisms are passed over quickly. Smaller viewers may find it boring, but Disney fans 10 and older are sure to be riveted by this fascinating man's life story. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

    Product Description
From Mickey Mouse to MARY POPPINS to Disneyland and beyond, Walt Disney touched the hearts of millions with his special brand of magic. In this revealing portrait, you'll discover the man behind the myth as never before. Inspired by daughter Diane Disney Miller and hosted by Disney legend Dick Van Dyke, the film features all-new interviews with friends, family, collaborators, and experts plus never-before-seen home movies. Through good times and bad, including a brush with bankruptcy during World War II, Walt remained a driven innovator and perfectionist behind studio gates and devoted family man at home. Commemorating the 100th anniversary of his birth, WALT: THE MAN BEHIND THE MYTH offers the most intimate look yet at the man whose legacy continues to inspire the world.

The man behind the myth is the best movie about Walt made to date. It was approved by his daughter and is supported by a table top book and a web site which is mantained by the family. The movie is a real gem containing family home film footage of Walt 3 months before he passed. I highly recommend it. Check out the website at

Walt's daughter is also working on a museum in San Francisco.

I'm too cheap to spend $26.99 on ANY DVD, but I can't deny that it wouldnt be a great DVD to own! I rented it on Netflix months ago -- I need to buy it though. But anyway, I'm sure that you won't regret it! It's a fantastic documentary/biography on Walt!
